Performance in any condition.

The widest offering from Atomic's line of backcountry-specific skis, the Backland Drifter Ski strikes a balance between speed on the ascent and performance on the descent. With a 95mm waist, the Backland is not a fat ski by any means, but with 130mm in the shovel and a rockered tip, it still offers plenty of float for when you're skiing powder. Traditional camber underfoot provides great stability at high speeds and excellent edge hold when you're skiing in crusty, hardpack conditions.

In order to lighten up the Backland Drifter, Atomic utilized a lightweight blend of poplar and caruba woods: the Ultralite Woodcore. This construction saves big on weight but still offers a highly skiable surface. However, to increase the agility of the ski and increase the edge hold for when you're in those survival skiing situations, Atomic laid a carbon backbone insert that runs the length of the ski. Not only does this keep the weight down, but it also provides dampness and stability so you can ski with confidence despite the conditions. The end goal with this ski was performance in any condition, and Atomic delivered. The Backland Drifter climbs like a champ for those longer tours, will hold an edge when you're making kick turns down icy couloirs, and will still float through powder when you're making laps in the trees on a storm day.
