Great shoes, but the mesh durability is an issue.
I really loved these shoes, but the mesh on the sides wore out in less than a year. It's a real shame, because they are such well-designed, good looking, and functional shoes. If Astral can figure out a way to reinforce the mesh with more durable materials, they will really be on to something. I hate when a shoe is perfectly intact and then has to be given away or thrown away because of one little defect...definitely not sustainable for the earth, customers, or the company long-term.

Amphibious holes at the heel please
I wouldn’t recommend astrals water running shoes for a hike that has a lot of sand. Because the holes for the water were at the tip of the shoe, and the trail was sandy, sand collected in the shoe. Finding amphibious shoes with the holes at the heel would be the way to go

Fits true to size
Great shoes. Super comfy, super light. Nice, wide toe box. And I love the way they look. A note on the sizing: This is the first pair of Astrals I've ever bought that are (finally!) true to size! I've been wearing Astral river shoes for years, and they've always run about a full size small (i.e., I'm a size 11 and I'd have to buy size 12 Rasslers). At least on these shoes, they've finally fixed that problem. I bought a size 11 and they fit like a size 11.

Not what I expected
Very comfortable and like the style but just as I had read on other reviews from this site, the mesh has already torn. I'm a bit disappointed because the Hemp Donners where amazing. Not the most stylish shoes, but indestructible other than wearing down the rubber on the soles. I have plenty of rubber on these but the plastic mesh is poor quality. I like this company that's why I didn't rate them a 2. I'm willing to give them a try again, but on a different shoe.

Great but not durable
One of the biggest challenges is finding the right pair of shoes for the boundary waters. This is almost perfect. Drains well and dries after wet footing and grips exceptionally well on to wet granite. One of my favorite parts is that the shoes keeps pebbles out during portages. The fine mesh will allow sediment to accumulate, but it doesn’t bother me much. My only issue is the durability. After its first 12 days of use in the BWCA, I discovered a hole on the lateral mesh. I don’t always get to choose where I stand while wet footing and often my feet will be scraping hard granite. It’s unfortunate that the pair had only one season. I really want to love them. Perhaps I’ll try the pairs without mesh.
