Astral Buoyancy's most versatile, unisex PFD.

Astral Buoyancy was founded on the banks of the Rocky Broad River in North Carolina. Since 2002, it has stayed small and responded quickly to the needs of the paddling community. And over time, it has developed a line of paddling products that have become staples and tools of the trade. Protective enough for rafting and mobile enough for stand-up paddleboarding, the versatile Camino 200 Personal Flotation Device is a reflection of Astral's devotion to the entire paddle community.

Besides its streamlined fit, the Camino boasts featherlight construction that classifies it as one of Astral's lightest flotation options. The PE chest panels sit close to the chest without feeling restrictive, and the front zip opening makes for easy entry and exit whether you're a seasoned vet or a first-timer. One of the features that truly sets the Camino apart is its Airescape technology, a patented front and back venting system created to allow fresh air to cool you off throughout the day. Compared to the professional-grade Astral Greenjacket and the recreational-style Ronny, the Camino is a multi-facted wonder capable of accommodating both sexes and almost any method of cruising the river, lake, or ocean.

  • Featherlight construction utilizes highly durable nylon ripstop material
  • Shoulder, side-waist, and waist belt secure the fit
  • Quick-access knife tab
  • Carabiner Park attachment points are compatible with Astral QR Rescue Belt
  • Two zipper pockets and two hand pockets

Nice summer PFD

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I tried this one since I really like the low-profile YTV but don't like the pullover style. The Camino 200 has a similar minimal feel. It doesn't feel like there's a huge float strapped to your chest. Instead the padding wraps all around. The cut of the front makes it female friendly. This would be awesome for anyone paddling in hot weather because there are cutouts all the way through the padding under the black mesh bits. The ripstop nylon is slightly translucent and seems fragile, but I suspect it's tougher than it looks. To me (5'6", 36D, 38" bust, 30" waist) the YTV is still more comfortable (less compression on the girls) even when really snugged down. The shoulder straps are pretty close together, if you have a thick neck this jacket might not work.

As usual I'm on the cusp of S/M and M/L. I got the M/L per the size chart but I have to pull every strap as tight as it will go, and still wish I could shorten the shoulders more, so this one goes back.

Note: unless I'm missing something, this jacket has 2 zippered pockets, not 4, and only small hands will fit fully inside, but sufficient for keys, sunblock, snacks.

Very Comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This PFD is very comfortable and easily adjustable. The only thing it lacks is a good place on the shoulder strap to attach my whistle so that it's easy to get in a time of need. I got mine is yellow so others can easily see me when I'm in the water.
