Description

Just about as sexy as a PFD can get.

Just one look at the sleek, minimalist Astral Bouyancy Willis Personal Flotation Device will probably convince you it's going to be the most comfortable PFD you've ever worn. It's not until you put it on that you discover the other not-so-obvious comfort features Astral included in the body.
  • Freestyle Tectonics design includes separate foam panels for the upper and lower body to give you unsurpassed freedom of movement
  • Flotection coverage wraps the foam around your torso and your spine for extra protection
  • Side buckles give you the option of pulling the Willis on from the side instead of over your head
  • Front adjustment straps let you customize the torso length for the ideal fit
  • Seven-inch elastic panel in the back adds comfort
  • Front lash tab provides an attachment point for your knife or a VHF radio

The Willis is very comfy, durable and does not impede movement. My willis has been through three summers of commercial guiding on the colorado and recreational kayaking and though faded a little, it is in good shape. It offers better mobility than most other LJ's I've used whether rowing or kayaking. Astral stopped making this one and I've considered buying another one but can't justify it given the condition of this one.

My Willis PFD has seen 180+ river days in the last two seasons, and she's still going strong! I cannot say enough good things about this PFD. The design is perfect-- side entry buckles are sturdy, unobtrusive, and far superior to a center zip, which can get snagged and pulled down just when you need the jacket the most. The rib padding does take a minute to get used to if you're accustomed to a lower-profile jacket like the NRS Ninja... but I could never go back! That extra protection is AMAZING for whitewater-- nothing worse than bruised and banged up ribs in a Class V swim!

Lara, how does the chest girth fit between the Willis and the Bella? I ask because an Astral size s/m is just a little bit big on me so I considered the Bella in hopes that it would snug up just that little bit more being women's specific. Wondering if in your experience that was true at all? ... I've tried stolquist which has an xs/s size, but that's too small (too short, uncomfortably snug) and then their next size is a m/l ... I like the Astral vests and particularly that my arms are more free (use = float fly fishing and whitewater rafting), but still kinda stuck on the sizing. ... Any ideas? Thanks!

Fits really well, used it last weekend and really like it. Received it as a Christmas gift and it is a great price for a jacket that fits me right.
