    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I went on a 7 day trip to Yellowstone in October where it poured rain, sleet, hail, and snow the entire week. I put these through an 80-mile trial by fire and they passed. If you want something that feels like a sneaker but is tough like a boot, this is it.

I can say the waterproofing on these is perfect. My feet were bone dry the entire time. The lacing system is closer to a rock-climbing shoe which allows for a very snug fit yet it has all the benefits of a burly shoe with abrasion resistant material in critical areas. The midsole stiffness is greater than a typical shoe for longer hikes but it has no shank which allows you to "feel" the ground a bit for awkward scrambles or off-camber sections. The outsole grip is amazing, even on smooth, wet rocks.

I will say the one caveat is the thread pattern on the bottom is not very aggressive (i.e shallow lugs), so snow and mud traction will take a slight hit. I didn't find it to be off-putting myself but your mileage may vary. In this case you are trading off tread aggression and gaining grippy surface area contact.

After about 80 miles I was getting some mild soreness on the bottom of my foot (that could have been attributed to conditioning or lack thereof). You have to know the limitations of your footwear. If you are an occasional / hiking weekend warrior, these shoes are perfect. This probably isn't what you want for heavy backpacking or 6+ day excursions.
