Protected my feet in Nepal

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Purchased: 10

I upgraded to these boots after my Asolo Styngers got lost in a move, and just put over 150 miles on them while doing the circuit to Everest Base Camp. They are extremely sturdy and waterproof, and I was particularly grateful to have their protection when the weather turned snowy. I have flexible ankles that often turn on stony trails, and these boots really helped me avoid debilitating twisted ankles. I won't lie, after about 10 miles in a day, my feet started to get a little sore, but I think that would happen with just about any boot.

Regarding the fit, they seem to run true to size, but seem to work better for a slightly wider foot. I normally wear a 9.5-10 W in women's, and opted for the 10 so that I could put Superfeet insoles in. I did develop a few blisters on the side of my inner heal, but I actually think that it was the contouring of the Superfeet, rather than the boots. Everything about this boot reads quality, and I would highly recommend if you are in the market for a sturdy boot that works well into colder temperatures.

Do these run narrow like most Asolo boots?

Best Answer Responded on

I've actually found most Asolo boots to run wide, and brands like La Sportivas are for the narrower foot. I wore these boots trekking in Nepal for 18 days, and they were fantastic, but I definitely have a wider foot (in the D range).

Unanswered Question

What is the water-resistant suede ? Is it the Genuine Leather?
Thanks

Can't wait to put miles on these boots!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have tried on many boots in my quest for new boots and these are amazing. Super comfortable out of the box with good room in the toe box will work well for a wider foot. I also tried the Asolo Drifter GV and there is no comparison on the comfort, performance and support of the Khumbu GV. Happy I found these at such a great price from Backcountry!

A great buy!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After years of backpacking and canoeing with my last pair of Asolos, it was finally time to get a new pair. I chose these after plenty of nights up reading reviews. I wanted something with more leather coverage, so there would be less possible seam tears. I also wanted a thick sole that would take years to wear down. This boot is exactly what I wanted and more. The waterproofing is fantastic (everything you'd expect from a Gore-Tex membrane), the insides dry out fast when you do find yourself with clumps of snow or a deep crossing, and my joints are doing just fine after even the longest boulder fields. I can't recommend these boots enough. Though pricey, they'll last you an incredibly long time.

A great buy!

Sweet Boot

Although I haven't put many miles on my Khumbu's yet, I've been very pleased with them. They felt great without having to break them in. They kept the water out and provided great support. I wore them on a "supposed-to-be-casual" moonlight ascent of the Naked Lady Couloir in Silverton, CO than turned a little epic. The performed great alone, through mud, with strap on crampons, and in snowshoes.
