The JJ got a steroid injection.

Offered only in 195cm, the Armada AK JJ Ski is a monster. Slightly stiffer than the original JJ but with all the same features, the AK JJ is for those who know that carrying a big stick to the big mountains is the way to get a job done right.

  • Armada’s EST Freeride Rocker features the perfect blend of rocker and positive underfoot camber, so you float when the flakes fall and carve the hardpack like an ice sculptor
  • The Hybrid Ultralight Core is made from lightweight wood with an exceptionally high strength-to-weight ratio, giving you the performance you demand without the extra weight
  • Carbon and Kevlar® stringers in the tail extend the life and fun level of this ski, once you pop you just can’t stop
  • Armada’s special Laminate Matrix utilizes directional fiberglass layering to dictate torsional rigidity and flex pattern, ensuring you will be the boss of your skis at high speeds
  • The AR50 Sidewall sports a cap construction in the tip and tail with a classic sidewall underfoot, providing the perfect blend of performance, durability, and low swing weight
  • With a 141mm front contact point and 120mm waist, the AK JJ effortlessly floats the deepest pow
  • The 1.7 Impact Edge does its part to keep things light and is heat-treated for super strength and durability
  • 50/50 Base technology was designed for skiers who want everything in one package, both speed and durability give this base its bite

So I'm 5'11'' not the tallest, but I hover just below 190 lbs when in decent shape. 195s sound slightly intimidating to me. Will these out ski me?

Responded on

195s might be a little too much ski to be honest. I would look for something in a size 190 or smaller, but in the end it all comes down to personal preference.

Just bought these what bindings do I go with? Looking for a reasonable price and light weight.

My ski of choice

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I skied on the 185 JJ for quite a few years and was really stoked when the 195 came out. I'm a bigger guy at 6' and 185 lbs and really like the extra length. I find compared to the 185 it has a bit of a longer turn and more surface area gives it more float in powder. With the early rise in the tip and tail it still performs incredibly well in tight trees. It has that pivot point where it responds super fast and then when its up at speed the thing is like a rock. Nice and stiff but not a full on 2x4. Had a chance to take it to Alaska this year and it performed exactly how a ski named AK should!

Love em

When I bought these skis I wasn't so sure about the size, since I had never skied anything this large. But after a few weeks I grew in to them and use them as an every day ski, not matter the conditions. Pow, trees, bumps or groomers these things rock. I'm a big guy, 6'2"220, and they're def built for big guys. If you're a big guy who's a hard charger these are for you.

Just as much fun as original JJ

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This ski is incredibly light and nimble for its size, the swing weight is MUCH lighter than the Bent Chetlers. All the weight is under the feet unlike the Bents where the weight is felt in the tips and tails.Makes long chair rides and all day skiing so much easier on my legs. Groomers were just as much fun as my 185 JJ's but in a different way. Little smoother and longer turn radius but incredibly fun. The Bents were more GS like and I feel more of a charging ski. The big moguls today were very easy to ski on AKJJ vs the Bents, tips and tails absorbed more of the bump. The Bents just wanted to fly over them all. Im 6' 1", 180lbs, 41 year old and can see the akjj will be just a blast in powder, trees, and everything. Seems like they're everything I like about my 185 JJ's with the more float I've been wanting for a couple years. AK JJ wins over the Bents for me.

Durability Issues

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was loving these skis for what I bought them for--big mountain/pow performance. But the base material and whatever adhesive was used was a major issue with me. Had ARVs, ANTs, JJs, and then this pair. Skis get coreshots-I know this and I repair them myself 98% of the time. but on this pair, a rock would ROUTINELY tear out/peel back massive chunks of the base-like 6" long PLUS every time. Upon closer inspection, the base material seemed WAY thinner than my burly ANTs as those could take way more of a beating. The fact that I was having to professionally repair them constantly was getting really old, I probably spent $300+ just repairing the massive damage to these sticks. Luckily, BC.com is AWESOME and hooked me up with their amazing return policy. Hate to say it but after years of being totally Armada brand loyal I am moving on to a different brand of ski :(

AK JJ or Bent Chetler? Pros and Cons to each. I want to go for Bent's due to the absolute sick graphics but everybody I talk to says the AK JJ is by far the way to go. Wish it was cooler looking. I have a pair of 185 JJ's but have wanted longer for the deep days for a couple years now. Any thoughts from people skiing them is much appreciated

if you are a big guy over 6 feet tall or a little heavier than most, or perhaps you just want to charge hard and fast, AK JJ is just right
