Forget the fit designation. The dimensions on the mfg sizing chart is exactly what you'll get, not an inch more for anything. This line is for younger men with abs of steel. 4 front pockets .... 2 chest, and 2 hand standard is welcomed sight. What do you place in an internal mesh? Sleeve length proportionate to Big Foot, but longer better than shorter. Am not sold on shells yet, but will give it a good try.
What do you recommend to wear under it?...

base layer is Hot Chilis, then I wear a decent looking long sleeved shirt that holds up in a bar, then a Patagonia down sweater. this combo under the Vertical is BOMB PROOF! totally warm, dry and able to regulate any temperture. in my post below, that is exactly what I'm wearing at Alta, UT. Best shell I own.

How does the material of the Vertical compare to the Stingray or Sidewinder? Does it have a similar soft shell feel? How does the inside of material feel against the skin? Soft flannel fabric?

The Vertical Jacket has a burly face fabric and Gore Pro 3L, with a Micro Grid Woven Backer. This backer has a soft hand but isn't necessarily warm/fuzzy. The Sidewinder SV will have the same Micro Grid Woven Backer. The Sidewinder and Stingray have a lo loft polyester backer/liner, which is soft, warm and fuzzy. The face fabrics also have a softer hand.

Incredibly lightweight... superior maneuverability... freakishly durable.. perfectly placed pockets.. years ahead of it's time. Worth every dollar. 100+ days backcountry and inbounds skiing at 9-12k', with 600" snow per season.
finally a ski jacket

been waiting for arc'teryx to make a jacket with a hood that disappears. the hood actually rolls up and stows in a zippered collar. I do not like wearing hoods, but it is there for those dumps.
I am 160 lbs 5'8" athletically built and the small fits perfectly since it is an "expedition" fit. I use a hot chilies for a base, my favorite Patagonia zip tee with Patagonia's down sweater for final layer. zip on the vertical jacket and you will be set. the 3 layer gore tex pro is wind and waterproof, making this jacket bomb proof. looks great with my Arc'teryx Stinger Bib Pant. the materials and workmanship are excellent. sorry, made in china. I have them all, kjus, helly hansen, outdoor research and this jacket is fast becoming a favorite.
so, if you want a real ski jacket, I don't care where on the mountain you happen to be, this thing will deliver.

Hi Backcountry,
Two questions for you on this this one:
1. How does this Vertical compare to the Norrona Lofoten for skiing, etc?
2. Are you going to have it in a large anytime soon?
Thanks,
Hayden

This jacket replaces my Arcteryx Stinger jacket, which had more than 120 days and much abuse (still very functional). I wanted a similar style and bought the Vertical, which I just took out for a weekend of skiing. I'll compare this jacket to the Stinger and also comment on new features. The short verdict: Arcteryx just killed it. Their new jacket had everything I wanted and was even better than the formidable Stinger. As has been true for all my Arcteryx purchases, the construction is bomber. The new jacket has much improved front pockets (all four of them), which hold more and look much better when doing so. (No "Michelin Man" effect.) The zipper design is also greatly improved and much less prone to accidental opening. The powder skirt on my old jacket was too loose, but this one has two settings and is nice and snug. When I measured the two jackets I could not see much difference in the length. But the first thing I noticed is that the Vertical did not have a tendency to ride up, as the Stinger did. Overall the Vertical's fit seemed better, in fact flawless for me. The collar is nice and high which greatly helps those like me with cold necks. (Seems similar to the Stinger collar, which is great in deep stuff.) Clearly the Vertical slays it in the white room.

Hi there,
How does the fit of this jacket compare to say, the Theta SV or the Stingray? I am 5'10 and about 160 lbs - what size would I be?

You are certainly a medium in he Vertical. It has more snowsport specific features when compared to the Theta. As for the Stingray it has similar features with a different fabric (gore tex softshell which adds a touch of warmth) and a different cut.
which jacket you choose will depend on what you plan to use it for. the stingreay is a 3 season shell. The theta and vertical can be used year round (although the powder skirt can be annoying in the summer). You really cant go wrong with any of your choices.
