Description

Tempestuous? Hardly.

Arc'teryx stepped back to consider just what women want in a technical ski softshell when it designed the Women's Tempest Jacket. The result: a just-right shape, a touch of insulation, superb weather-resistance and breathability, and a cut that lets you move. Whether you're perfecting your quick turns through your favorite off-piste powder stash or breaking trail up the skin track, the Tempest has your comfort in mind.
  • Gore-Tex Soft Shell 3L material seals the elements out, provides standout breathability, stretches just enough, and warms you with its soft inner face
  • Roomy Storm Hood fits over your helmet or beanie to block afternoon high winds
  • Articulated elbows and no-lift gusseted underarms mean the jacket won't shift or ride up as you move
  • Powder skirt, adjustable cuffs, fully-taped Tiny Gore seams, and WaterTight zippers all pitch in to keep the snow out
  • Hidden Recco reflector adds an extra element of safety in the event that a sidecountry day turns sour
  • Neck opening is cut a bit larger than usual to accommodate your inner layers (Arc't knows how you love your high-collared puffy vest)

5'5" 112 lbs. Usually go with an XS. Have found some Arcteryx jackets a little on the small side. I do want to be able to layer a "down sweater". How does this run? Small? Small for Arcteryx? Cut to accommodate some layering?

It's hard to say whether or not this will fit smaller than some other Arc'teryx jackets that you've tried as they have different sizing schemes for different styles of jackets.
This one in particular comes with their relaxed fit which according to Arc'teryx, "...relies on higher volume patterns and a reduced amount of articulation to offer roomy mobility."
Their relaxed fit is their biggest fit that they offer so it should provide room underneath for layering.

Does this jacket have put zips? Is the soft shell truly that much softer than the Gortex Pro Shell three layer?

The Tempest has pit zips. The Goretex Softshell is quite a bit softer than proshell. It also has more warmth because of the fuzzy inside. Proshell is tougher, more packable and a bit more breathable.

So I had the Arcteryx Scorpian Jacket which I LOVED for a couple of years to have it stolen out if my car this year. I was soooo bummed, and even more bummed that it was discontinued.
My husband just got me the Tempest the other day just before a snow storm. I was so stoked!!

If you get a little colder even in milder cold weather this is the right jacket for you. I hate having to layer too much and with this jacket I can layer less b/c the fleece insulation on the inside.

Hands down the best coat I have ever owned! Well worth the money,no doubt about it!!

So I have been lusting over Arc'teryx jackets for years, not able to bring myself to buy one until this year. After getting soaked for the last time in wet snow in my mid level Helly Hansen last season (great jacket for the $125 clearance price tag) I was ready for some change. I am super picky about my snow jacket, need a high zipper so my nose is covered. This is the only one I could find that had a high neck, don't other people want to save their face from winter elements? The hood is big and fits well over my helmet. This jacket is lightweight and moves well. It is semi fitted, so get a size bigger so you can layer. I like that it has light insulation, very versatile. Wore this in wet Mt. Baker snow, stayed dry on top, the bottom half of me got soaked, my North Face snowpants need to be replaced with some Arc'teryx snowpants. I wish this jacket had wrist gators. Really my only complaint aside from the cost. I am sure this jacket will last me for many years due to its great quality.

Awesome picture! Do you have the bottom cinched or loose? I was worried this would be too long but it looks good on you.

I need to know what the warmest Arc'teryx jacket is. I'm not used to cold weather and will be snow skiing, snow mobiling, and dog sledding during the end of December and beginning of January. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No question, the Arc'teyx Fission SV would be the jacket that would work best for all these activities. Totally water/wind proof, and really warm.

Layer, layer, layer! Arc'teryx is generally the outer shell, while underneath you have different layers depending on the temperature and your activity level. For example, what you wear under your Arc'teryx shell when you're skiing in 30 deg temperatures will be different than what you wear underneath if it's 10 deg. Your level of exertion when skiing matters too -- are you merely cruising on green runs or are you working up a sweat in the backcountry or taking on black diamond bump runs? During snowmobiling and dogsledding, your activity level is generally low and there's significant wind due to your movement, so you'll want warm layers like a down jacket underneath your Arc'teryx shell. You get the idea. Now it should make sense that you DON'T want to purchase the Arc'teryx Fission jacket that's already got insulation because then you have no options when the temperature or your activity level changes. (no one buys those!) Plus, with just the shell, it serves as an awesome rain jacket and wind protection even without layers underneath -- having an Arc'teryx shell is about the coolest outer piece you can stroll around town in!!!

Check out the CoreLoft insulated Arc'teryx Sarissa jacket.
It's totally weatherproof and delivers a hefty dose of insulation.
