Made with tight-weave Polartec Wind Pro fleece and Hardface technology, the Arc’teryx Men’s Tau Pullover Fleece makes a highly functional mid-layer on everything from multi-pitch rock routes to mega-deep pow days. This stretchy pullover moves with you while you jam cracks or slash turns and the deep front zip dumps excess heat.
Bottom Line: Get four-season warmth and wind protection with the Tau Pullover.
i can testify that everything up there in the description is accurate! i love mine and it's super stretchy and it fits better than all the other arcteryx pullovers that i own in the fact that it's long enough to cover my hairy belly and fit just right for a 6'3 190lb'er. i got a size small and it fits like a medium. i love it
I've lost count of days that I've worn my Arc'teryx Tau Pullover, but it's now 3 years old and I'm sure it's been worn over 100 days (each year). Climbing-smooth face bounces off, instead of snagging on, rocks. Skiing-layers nice without bunching because of the smooth face, and it also sheds light snow (and light beer, I live in UT) while hiking. Daily wear-blocks a bit of wind, which is great for spring and fall. And, it still looks great, sure it's got a hole or two from flying embers, but no pilling or wear spots. This is way more than a fleece pullover.

I would think the Tau would work for you in Small. It won't fit tight but it won't be gunny sac either. Another option would be the Rho AR top from Arc'teryx, they fit more closely, have similar insulation value, and a smooth face.
Awesome construction, fits great. I wear just as a fleece or I layer it under a hardshell without difficulties. I originally ordered an XL but exchanged for a Large. I am 6'4" 225 lbs. The XL fits almost the same with the exception of the extra bagginess around the torso and waist. Great Buy!
I'm 6' 175 and the Arc'teryx Tau pullover in Medium works for me, with a bit of extra sleeve length. I'm thinking the Large would be a better fit for you, even though this pullover does have fairly long sleeves. If you're looking for really close fit, I think the medium would fit that way.
I have two of these-I bought the second because the first was a great fit and worked well at wicking moisture and bleeding off heat without a clammy feel. I like that it's non-binding and allows unrestricted movement in all my outdoor passions-ice climbing, snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling.Just wish they made different colors. It has a tight face weave;which is supposed to give you windproofing-but I can't say that it helped at all-a good stiff 10 mph breeze in 30 degrees and you'll wish for your shell.I feel it's a great fleece-but not a windstopper.Treat it as such and you'll love it.
I've been looking at buying the tau pullover but don't know what size to get I'm 6'5, 220 lbs with a 42" chest, 39" waist, 41" hip, and 36.5" sleeve. any help would be appreciated.
I am a fan of the Tau pullover. I got the bean green and the color is even better than on computer. I am 6'0" and 175 lbs and the medium fits me just right. Not tight or loose. I am suprised how wind proof and warm it is while still being soft. It works great as a mid-layer. Not water proof at all, just fleece. If I could go back I think i would pay the extra $25 and get the tau jacket with the full zip instead of just the pullover. Still I give it 5 stars and am very pleased with it.
Hi, I have a Tau size "M" but I am not agree with trim fit in waist. I want it should be more close cut, no? I am 6´0" and 176 lbrs. 40" chest , waist 35" and hip 39" What do you think? I don´t like this loose fit at waist.
This fleece is designed to fit well on active alpinists and climbers-it's not a fashion statement. If you wear a harness, you would love the room.If not, return it for a smaller size-Backcountry is awesome about returns.
Very nice for working construction at a ski resort. I wear this every day and it works great to wick away sweet and keep me warm down to 10 below. I am 6' and 220lbs and should have ordered a large instead of the XL. a little baggy but still preforms great.
Wow, this has been a lot of work to write this review, kicked off, comments flying into cyberspace. This is a fairly good piece of gear. Well made, nice lining. I got the XXL, am 6'5", 275 lbs. It turns wind better than an ordinary fleece, but I found it to leak air. Was out yesterday at 42 degrees, face into a steady 20MPH with gusts to 30MPH. Leaked cold air pretty good on the gusts, and while better at the consistent wind, still leaked cold air. I was wearing a thin poly-pro as a base layer. I put on a not so windproof garment over the Tau, and it still leaked cold air onto my torso. If I was to wear it in colder temps with wind, I would absolutely have a quality windproof over it, as well as a heavier base layer. I have a Sniper also, and the Sniper is more wind resistant than the Tau. I thought the Tau would do a better job turning the wind than it did, so I am going to say it is not worth it's price. It is an expensive piece of gear not to live up to what it is touted to do.
I agree that this is an awesome pullover. I have used it in 20 below conditions in BC, to biking in Va Beach, this is the one i usually grab f I need good layerability. The warmth to weight ratio is indeed incredible. The wind resistance is excellent as a stand alone in 20- 30 F sunny to cloudy ski conditions and I carry a lightweight shell in my pack in case it goes bad. On pow days this goes under my Arc shell, and with the combo of these two, I usually only wear one base layer. That combo is good down to about 5F. On my road bike, I wear it as a wind shirt/sweater in late fall and I'm good down to around 40. Of course all depends on wind and how active you actually are.
Regarding size, It has a long cut and is built with a longer tail. The sleeves are ample in length. I'm usually a 34-35 sleeve and I never have any problems. I'm not sure what's up with the other reviewer that's over 6' wearing a small, b/c I do not agree with him at all. I have the XL, am 5'-11", 190 and don't even want to think about anything smaller than that. While I do have a 44-46" chest, people should consider that most of ArcTeryx stuff runs small to true, IMHO, so with that said, I would go larger if you are inbetween or plan on wearing this over several layers. Again, I can't speak highly enough about this "jacket" and recommend it as a must have.
From backpacking and climbing up to 11,000ft to bow hunting to snowshoeing to long windy hikes at the beach this product Kicks Ass!!! I live in Oregon which allows me to spend my adventures in all types of climates and weather conditions. This is the best pull over I have ever had. It blocks the wind which was very important to me as it can get pretty windy up on the high ridges I hike. I was tired of having to put on another layer to stay warm and then have to take it off a short time later when off the ridge. This is the solution to that. It also repels water great. I have not have to put on my rain coat in some pretty good downpours and it repelled the water well. Some previous comments have indicated it does not wick well and it does not fit well- to big. I would strongly disagree I work my ass off when I adventure, so I sweat and it actually has been excellent at wicking moisture away and then dries out quickly. Sizing seems right to me I am 6' 190lbs and bought the XL and it fits great. It is on the longer side which is great for packing. They now need to make some pants out of the same material. It was worth the money!!!
Just purchased the Tau pullover and was initially unsure about the sizing (I'm 6'3", 165 lbs, 30" waist, 40" chest, 18.5" sleeve), so I bought both a small and a medium. The small fits like a glove, with the perfect waist and sleeve length, not a whole lot of extra at the sleeves but enough to maintain coverage with my arms extended. It also has enough room to fit a base layer underneath but is not too baggy that it's constantly flapping in the wind. The wind-proofing is perfect and the brushed fleece interior makes this one of the most comfortable outdoor pieces I own. I would highly recommend this pullover, regardless of the price.
This garment gets a two star rating due to price and wicking. I have worn mine on three different outings, and this is something you wear when you are walking from pub to car on a cool, slightly breezy evening. You don't want to wear it if you are going to sweat. Looks good though.
I most recently wore the garment in 15-18mph wind, 45 degrees, with fairly high exertion level, climbing and walking up steep grades. I was wearing a lightweight wicking top underneath. The Tau was completely soaked with sweat, the fleece collecting water like a sponge. It didn't do a very good job keeping the wind out either. I was cold and very wet. When I got back to my rig, I turned the Tau inside out, and hung it on a mirror to dry. One hour later, it was still wet. In my book the Tau gets thumbs down. This is an expensive piece of gear, and doesn't cut the mustard.
i can testify that everything up there in the description is accurate! i love mine and it's super stretchy and it fits better than all the other arcteryx more...
