Awesome quality and fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Purchased two pair a few months back. I am a 6'1" 190lb climber, 34" inseam. The size 36 is a perfect fit in both waist and length. I will call them true to size after being washed and put in the dryer. Love the look and fit. The fabric has a nice stretch but feels like cotton canvas. Not heavy like a pair of Mt. Khaki's, but not wimpy light, just right and comfy. So far the quality is what I expect from Arcteryx.

STOP SCREWING WITH MY PANTS!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Seriously, Arcteryx? You just had to go and cheapen the materials, construction, and design of my favorite pair of pants? I see you left the already high price alone, though!

No more buying new Arcteryx for me - from now on I'll happily buy used Arcteryx gear that (1) won't line your sell-out pockets and (2) will live up to my expectations.

Why did Arc'teryx fix what wasnt broke?!

The old Spotter pant were my favorite for camping, hiking, bumming around in the winter. A solid, overall good pair of pants.

This year's Spotter pants are not the same. The material has been changed to a lighter cotton/spandex blend. The cut and sewing that made previous years spotter pants so great is now gone as is the micro fleece lined waist band.

As a loyal Arc'teryx customer, I am very disapointed in the changes to this pant. Wish I would bought a few more of last years when I had the chance.

WTF just happened to my favorite pants!

I'm a loyal owner of Arc'teryx original Gamut Pants and Spotter Pants. These are my favorite pants for everyday and night out. I own 8 pair of the Gamut Pants and was truly bummed when they discontinued them and went to a lighter weight version and to the Spotter Pant. My Gamut pants are all around 6 to 8 years old so I recently purchased a couple pair of Spotter Pant . Thankfully the new Spotter Pant held true to the original design of the Gamunt pant. They kept the fit and cut, they kept the original waist band liner, deep pockets, 100% cotton, thou lighter canvas, etc...

Today a new version of Spotter Pants arrived. I loved the color, but then my first touch of the fabric warned me that they're were some changes to these pants. WTF have they done to my favorite pants, I thought as I hesitantly slipped them on! Why didn't I buy a couple more pair before they change the design!

The new Spotter pants are now 99% Cotton and 1% Spandex. Every pant I've ever purchased with Spandex has ending up being too warm and they never seemed to "Breath" as well as a pair of 100% cotton pants. Don't believe me, try blowing through a 100% cotton pant VS 99% with Spandex. But it's worse than that, the cut, the sewing pattern that gave you the articulated knees has been removed! Even the knife pocket has been removed!

But for many of you having them shorten your zipper from 6.5" length to 5" of a too short length, may just be the last straw! Seriously, you're hanging on a rock and you can't even take it out to pee!

As a product designer of 30+ years, I understand the creative drive to improve a product. To improve the cut, the fit, the freedom of movement, to simplfy the design and yet improve it... What I'm guessing we have here is some typical bean counting MBA decided to cheapen the Spotter pants, increase profit, and destroy my favorite pants and my day! You should have left it alone and named the new version by another name!

Thanks for the honest update.

Sizing isn't quite right

I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseem. These come in sizes according to waist only. I assumed with a 36" waist (fatty) I'd get long enough legs. Not quite. They're a little high, but passable. Until I wash them. I have a feeling they'll shrink if not washed/dried on cold settings.

They're cool pants otherwise. The canvas is heavy, too heavy for summer wear, but they flex well enough to climb in. I'd have been much happier with the perimeter or rampart, I think. Especially because they come in variable inseams.
Also, the waist cut is generous. 36" waist fits more like 38". Without a belt, I can wear these with a pair of boxer shorts in an urban setting and fit right in.
