Take warmth to the next level when you’re at elevation with the Arc’teryx Sigma AR Mitt. These waterproof and windproof mittens use Gore-Tex XCR Membrane technology to shield your digits from cold and wet mountain conditions, while allowing your hands to breath when you’re sweating during warm spring snow season.

  • Articulated patterning gives natural finger movement, while a leather reinforced palm and thumb take a beating during the occasional yard sale
  • Two lofty layers of insulation (PrimaLoft One and Polartec fleece) keep your hands warm in insultingly cold temps
  • Panels of stretchy softshell allow for a more comfortable and flexible fit

Bottom Line: Not your ordinary oven mitt.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

It seems fishy to me that these mitts have 400g of Primaloft

It seems fishy to me that these mitts have 400g of Primaloft 1 when their total weight is supposedly 205g. Hmmm...

The 400gm is the weight of a full yard of the Primaloft, not the amount in the glove. It's an indicator of the thickness of the Primaloft.

Needs an idiot strap.

Really, guys. Almost 2 hundy and no idiot strap. I guess if you're in a cold enough environment where you leave them on all day it would be okay, but in the Cascades, it's simply too warm and one is constantly taking gloves off so an idiot strap is necessary. Returning.

So with ya on this one...I bought some OR gloves for an affordable price and all of my friends had the strap to wear around their wrists. I always had to hold on to my gloves for dear life so then I decided to add my own idiot stap with some bungee cord and some cinches from an old backpack. Sometimes if the product is good and affordable it's ok to modify but I see your point..when you invest you should get it all.

Which is better...this or the Outdoor Research Alti mitten?

"Better" depends on how you'll be using them. I've tried both, and the OR Alti are crazy warm, too much for me, in fact, because I don't climb big alpine routes. The amount of insulation makes them feel pretty clunky. The Arc'teryx mitts fit better than any mitt I've tried before, but are still warm enough for mid-winter conditions if you're not above 14,000 feet.
So, super cold, high elevation- Go OR. Regular winter use, whether skiing or climbing- Arc.
