Premium fabrics + obsessive construction = protection for a lifetime of hard use.

Arc'teryx obsesses over details to create superior quality outerwear, and its Women's Scimitar Jacket provides optimal protection when you're slashing through deep powder or navigating the slopes in an epic dump. The jacket's premium fabric and top-of-the-line construction are designed to optimize your comfort while taking a lifetime of hard use. The face fabric is luxuriously soft and lightweight yet extremely durable. The three-layer Gore-Tex Pro membrane offers excellent breathability while providing guaranteed waterproof protection, and is Gore's toughest fabric made to withstand hard use in extreme conditions. The WaterTight Vislon front zipper keeps moisture from getting in through the cracks without the need for a bulky storm flap, and the sleeve pocket is also sealed off with a WaterTight zipper. If you need added protection against falling snow or icy windchill, you can cinch down the helmet-compatible hood with hidden adjusters in front or with an adjuster at the back of the hood. The hood is designed to move with your head so you maintain a clear field of vision at all times.

A powder skirt with snaps that allow you to connect it to compatible Arc'teryx pants, and a drawcord at the hem, work together to seal snow out if you're plowing through deep powder or spraying snow on fast runs. If you're working up a sweat while hiking out to your favorite spot in the backcountry, you can air out by unzipping the mesh-lined underarm vents. The jacket's roomy expedition fit provides plenty of room for layering underneath while allowing room to move, and ergonomic 3-dimensional patterning (or e3D) supports a maximum range of movement through articulation at the elbows and underarm gusseting that keeps the jacket from lifting when you raise your arms. Arc'teryx has thought of everything to provide moving comfort and optimal protection, so you can focus on performance and fun out on the mountain.

    Fantastic shell ski jacket

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: S

I was a little hesitant to wear this shell with only 2 layers under it, but I wanted to test how well it would keep out the cold, in mid-30s, I was perfectly warm on the runs, a little chilly on the lift, but comfortable. This jacket fits great (keep the snow out every time I fall) and has tons of pockets for stuff. I love the hood, it fits perfectly over my helmet and stays on. Haven't tested the pit zips and how well it breathes in warmer temperatures, but will update the review when I've done so.

    Well worth the money

If you want a shell that is going to last a while get this one! I purchased mine to wear snowboarding along with the arcteryx bibs I have.
My last snowboard jacket was insulated so going from that to this is a pretty big warmth difference sort of. I usually wear a base layer and then a mid layer such as my down jacket. Those two layers keep me pretty comfortable in 20 degree weather. The ventilation works really well. The pit zips are really BIG and it does have the dual zippers for the underarm vents.
Aside from it not being insulated and warmer than my last, this jacket will keep you DRY no matter what so that is a plus to keeping you warmer. Goretex is amazing. I love looking like one of the dryest person out on the mountain. :) This is the main reason I purchased this to stay dry and happy.
The zippers are great! My last jacket did not have any internal zippered pockets. This one does and it even has a zippered pocket on the sleeve which is super cool.
I haven't really used the powder skirt since I have bibs but it seems like it would work normal. There are pull strings around the bottom of the jacket it make it tight to keep the snow out!
The hood is super huge, which is okay if you are wearing a helmet which is usually likely the case... took me a while to figure out how to make the hood stay over my helmet after cinching down some of the pullies. There are two different ones to adjust on the hood and plus the front ones at the neck. Once I figured it out it was good.
The wrist velcro are pretty tight with my gloves. I usually wear my sleeve over my mittens not my mittens over my sleeve but with this jacket it is hard to put the sleeve over my mittens even when the cuff is as wide as possible.
Lastly, this jacket is a tid bit loud but hey i'm snowboarding in it not going to a movie!

Great choice and will last a long time!! Oh, and the golden poppy color is perfect! You can spot me on the mountain pretty easy.

    Well worth the money

    Perfect shell ski jacket

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: M

This is a pricey coat but it delivers. It's very high quality, great fitting, and has all the right features of a nice ski shell - pit zips, nice big outer pockets for skins, useful inner pockets, a storm hood, and powder skirt that attaches to Arc ski pants. It's pretty light considering that the material feels super bomber and sheds rain like Goretex should. I highly recommend this coat!

    This Jacket Delivers

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

    • Size Bought: small

I bought this jacket with the idea of needing a strong, waterproof, durable jacket to last me any adventure I take it on! Hiking, touring, snowboarding, snowshoeing etc! This jacket does it all. Love the pockets, vents and rosella color! My only debate on the jacket was to keep the small or step up to a medium. I'm 5'3'' and I wanted to be able to layer. Small might be tough for a thick puppy but a mid weight and nano puffy and base layers fit good under it. Would highly recommend this jacket to other women go getters!

Easily the best jacket I've ever owned. Skied the Sierra Nevadas in 20-30 degree days with 60mph winds and snow mixed with rain and I was bone dry and comfy with three thick layers underneath it. It was a little snug through the armpits at first, but has since softened and become very comfortable. Helmet compatible hood with super high collar is fab. Sweet pockets too. Rosella is a nice brick red with dark purple on the arms.

    Keeps the Cold Out

I love this jacket. The quality is impeccable and the features are well thought out. It is lightweight and easily fits in my pack. The Gore Tex Pro an amazing job at keeping the weather at bay.

I ordered a L and it fits great. I like that my skins will fit in the hand pockets(one in each) I have worn this a ton backcountry skiing and it is perfect for the descent. It has very adequate underarm zippers that are really efficient at dumping heat so for a mellow cold uphill in the shade it is not too much. I have also used it at the ski area and love all the pockets for snacks and other niceties you may need while lift riding.

      Keeps the Cold Out

      A - for Arcteryx

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times
      • Fit:True to size

I don't think I need to sell anyone on Arcteryx's shells. This is just one of many All-Star jackets.

I chose this because it's durable and should take a lot of abuse, for a long time. I'll have to update this review after I've had it a few years. But, knowing Arcteryx, it will be bomber.

My favorite things about the coat's features are the long pit-zips and the weight. It's very light-weight, but keeps me warm with just a base layer and an active fleece.

On a superficial note, I also really like all the handy pockets. I have my resort pass on my arm, my replacement lens in the napoleon pocket, my credit cards in the inside pocket, and random other stuff in the hand pockets. Also, the wrists easily velcro down, and fit nicely under my gloves.

Down side, not sure. I noticed the previous review said the jacket is loud. It is not the loudest, but it does sound like your average ski jacket.

If I could dream a little, I would have an insulated pocket for my phone, that would keep it from freezing and therefore shutting off. I don't have any other complaints, at this time.

The size is true to size. I'm 5'8, 135lbs. The medium is the right size, for me. However, I am wearing a small, in the photo. I got a small, because I wanted it to fit into my pack, easily. There was much debate in the office, as the small clearly fit me, and fits nicely with two layers. But, the style is meant to be longer than it is on me. The telling sign was when I snapped the powder skirt over my ski pants. It's really tight. So, even though I'm fine with the size I have, and happy that it will pack down small in my touring pack, I'm truly a medium.

      Expensive but close to perfect

      • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit:True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

This jacket is perfect for backcountry use or anywhere on the mountain really, it has all the pockets you need yet still packs down pretty small, great style that is not too baggy but still room to layer and of course the excellent waterproofing and breathability of GoreTex Pro.

The only negative thing I could say about this jacket is that it crinkles very loudly when you move which is somewhat annoying but that is true of all GoreTex Pro shells.

      Great hiking/ski jacket!

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times
      • Fit:True to size

I've used this in the backcountry about five times now and I love it! It blocks out all wind, has great ventilation when needed and the hood fits easily over my helmet or just over my head when I'm wearing a hat and it's windy. It also folds up easily to fit in my day pack. I used to have to wear more layers but since this blocks out all wind I can go with just a base layer underneath and I'm toasty. I got it in Cyan Blue and it's a really nice color and fits well. I'm 5'5" and 117 lbs. and the small is a good fit for me. It's the most I've ever spent on a jacket, but it's well worth the money to have the right gear.
