Built for the up and the down.

If the only lines in your ski days are the ones that you'll make on the way down, then resort ski pants just aren't going to work. Instead, you'll want to look toward the highly-breathable Arc'teryx Men's Sawatch Pant. These pants are absolutely loaded with features that you'll enjoy on both the up, as well as the down. It starts with bonded, stretch-woven softshell that keeps you nice and cool on the uphill, then moves with your body as you tackle the steeps on the way down. An adjustable, removable waistbelt paired with removable suspenders gives you plenty of configuration options, enough to tackle just about any situation you can dream up. A couple of zippered pockets combined with a cargo pocket make sure that your lip balm and fruit-snacks are never far out of reach. Taped critical seams protect the areas generally prone to pressure points, since nobody likes to be driven home by the weather. Lastly, Keprotec instep patches keep the cuffs of your pants from looking like the victim of an '80s horror movie character.

    Great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

6'3 200 lbs, bought the large and great fit. Comfy stretch and great for warmer days on the hill. Paired with long underwear, the block wind well. I ski Squaw and these are perfect for most days above 20 F.

    Great

    functional looking pant

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

I ordered these along with the Gamma MX pant to replace a very old pair of Gamma MX pant. According to the fit calculator on the Arcteryx website I ordered a large while the Gamma MX was recommended as a Medium. I am 5'10", 170 lbs. The Sawatch is too large for me. The Gamma MX fits well and would be warmer than the Sawatch as the lining is thicker. I am able to comfortably wear the Gamma MX in 10°F weather without long underwear. I don't believe I could do this in the Sawatch.

    Great, athletic fitting pant

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Love these trousers. They're super comfy and have a reasonably athletic fit. Don't think baggy ski pant. Thank something in-between a typical ski pant and form fitting alpine climbing/skimo pants. They breathe well and during an all day, wet, and pow day in Tahoe they stayed dry. For the price (relative to Arc gear), fit, comfort and with suspenders + high waste - these are incredible.

My preferred use cases will be active/sidecountry days and day ski tours.

Note, I'm 6'4ish / 200 lbs and got the large tall. They fit great!

What jacket goes with these pants?

I think the intended purpose is back country touring on blue ski days....so hard shells would not seem to be it. They don't seem to make jacket out of the same material as the pants,,,the closest thing is the Lithic, but that is mostly a hardshell.

Thinking maybe one of the Gamma MX jackets? Would carry a SL hard shell in case things got nasty.

It just seems they did not make a jacket for the same purpose in the While Line...so wondering if maybe there is a jacket still to come?

    Hey Tom,

Arcteryx has a few options to match these, so it kind of depends on what you need! On their website, Arcteryx recommends the Sitkine jacket... It is insulated so that would keep you SUPER toasty. Here's a link to that item on our site:

The Lithic Comp is a GoreTex soft-shell - optimized for backcountry touring:

The Sabre is a hardshell that offers full protection from wind, wet and snow - designed for big mountain skiing and free ride:

Really anything from their Whiteline collection will pair well with these - again it just depends on what will suit your needs the best. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions!
