The Arc'teryx Women's Rho AR Boot Cut Bottom provides heavyweight insulation and essential moisture-wicking power for cool-weather running and mid-winter skiing. The mid-calf length reduces bulk when you wear ski, snowboard, or mountaineering boots. Polartec Power Stretch fabric feels plush and cozy while an alpine storm rages.

Bottom Line: Low bulk, lots of insulation.

Finally a base layer that keeps me warm

By:

I'm always getting cold during the winter sports season and usually have to put on multiple layers, which only helps for a couple of hours once I get outside. Now after purchasing these pants, I only have to wear the 1 layer. They're thick, I admit, but not bulky so they won't add a lot of size to your legs. I wore them underneath my exercise pants one morning, and they were only obvious from the pocket zipper. They're nicely fleece lined, and even after leaving them in the car overnight and then having to put them on the next morning, the inside was warm. It keeps my body heat.

The only gripe I have about these, which seemed like a great selling point, is they are not really bootcut. Due to my 5'1" height, the bootcut falls about 1" above my ankle. I was looking forward to having less bulk in my boots, but it's not a big deal. I'm keeping these!

Actually Heavyweight/Expedition Weight

By:
January 9, 2010

These are nice stylish pants. However, they are not midweight at all (advertised as mid weight on Arcteryx's site). I purchased them as a midweight layer for ski touring and climbing. My boyfriend has a similar pair, which turn out to be perhaps Rho LT bootcut (no longer offered). These are absolutely heavyweight long underwear and at least as thick or thicker than even expedition weight long underwear. These are thicker than my winter cycling pants. So, very nice piece, but not midweight. The small is pretty long on me (I normally wear a small in Arcteryx) so they are longer than I would expect for bootcut.
