The Arc'teryx Men's Boot Cut Rho AR Bottoms feature below-the-knee legs to eliminate extra fabric that would only bunch up against your skiing, snowboarding, or climbing boots. These \276-length base layer pants are designed to work seamlessly with big winter boots and keep your legs toasty without creating a bunch of bulk at your calves.

Bottom Line: All the pants you need, none that you don\222t.

This isn't a question, but I didn't want to write a review

This isn't a question, but I didn't want to write a review (and give a star rating) because I'm returning the item. Well made, seems like they would be crazy warm, which was just what I wanted. Unfortunately, the sizing is wacky. I got the Large even though I'm in between Medium and Large (6'1", 200lbs, 34.5" waist), but it just didn't fit right. The waist was OK If I had some H-H boot cuts underneath (which are skin-tight in the L, by the way), but there's no elastic anywhere on these, and the cuffs have absolutely no taper. Unless you've got gigantic calves and no taper from your knees, expect to have some excess fabric around the cuffs...not ideal.

I have these and mine do not flair - they grip my calf firmly. I agree that they do not have lots of stretch, but at 6'1", 195 lbs, my size large fit comfortably without any bagginess. I find the weight great for a very cold day alpine touring or winter alpine skiing in the Northeast. I hope this helps...

That's a very good point, one which I didn't appreciate until you pointed it out. Still, since the product description doesn't reference the 3/4 length (which they most definitely are), one would normally assume they referred to the length and not hem style! After all, what other baselayer actually has any kind of reference to the hem style?!? Why would someone actually need bootcut hems for these things??? Too bad, they were great weight otherwise.

Caveat emptor.

Sounds like you want something like the Mighty Power 3/4 tight from Mountain Hardwear. That's what I have for running in cold weather. In looking at these, the boot cut seems to refer not only to the length, but the style. Boot cut jeans flare slightly at the hem, which is what these do.
