For my wife

Bought these for my wife after i bought a pair of the men's and loved them. (fit a little tricky - got her 12s which fit great in the behind but very loose on the waist - got her a size 10 which fit almost perfect - little tight in the rear, but not enough to make her uncomfortable) She loves them! wore them every day during a recent week long camping trip. they held up well to everything, including a very epic mountain biking wipeout. pants fine - wife a little beaten up but still in good spirits, especially when we finally got back to camp and was able to partake in a well earned malt beverage. Great color

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love, love these pants. Wore them on a two week road trip this fall and wore them nearly every day. Bought the black ones also. The fit is so great for my shape. At 69 it is very hard to find pants that fit so good and look so good for any activity.

    Favorite backpacking/trail pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    Awesome fit by Arcteryx.

I can't believe I've wasted money on other pants when this one has everything right. I bought this pant as well as the Arcteryx Parapet. This one was my choice for a 5 days trek in Peru. The waist rise was high enough to stay put and was definitely made with a backpack hip belt in mind. The knee gussets allowed me to take long strides and crouch awkwardly despite having little stretch. And like others have said, the knee gussets aren't prominent in real life.

I'm 135 lbs, wear a 6 or 28 in most pants, the 6 waist was awesome and fit my skier thighs.

I am 5'5". I found the Parapet to be more casual and didn't fit quite as well, i.e. I would guess the Rampart has a higher waist to hip ratio whereas the Parapet is cut a little straighter. The Parapet waist stretched a lot and after several days out of the wash I was forced to wear a belt. I liked the Parapet as a travel pant as it has a slightly straighter leg and lower rise waist. For hiking I far preferred the articulation in the knees of the Rampart and the slightly higher waist fit me better and worked better with my pack. Parapet is good, Rampart is stellar!

    Fantastic Pants

These pants are very flattering and comfortable. I use them for traveling and hiking. The fabric is ultra-lightweight and sheds water and dirt (after a week in morocco my light blue pants didn't even look dirty). Loved them enough to buy a second pair! PS. I was worried that the articulated knees (though great for climbing) would look goofy - not at all. The articulations lose the hard pleat look and soften up nicely.

      Will buy again

I am very happy with the light but tough fabric, the cut and overall quality. They have been great for hiking and doing dirty yard work in hot weather. I will buy another pair. Great multi purpose pant that would be ideal for traveling.

        Great all-purpose pant

Although a little lightweight, this is a rugged and durable pant. I had a fall on a rocky trail and even though I skinned my knee, there was not even a scratch on the fabric. My husband thought the fit was terrific (without me asking for his opinion), which is not a compliment that you receive very often when it comes to hiking pants! I wore it from the trail straight to the airplane, and arrived home many hours later still looking relatively fresh. I am a size 2-4, 5'4 and 119 lbs, and was very happy with the size 4x31.

          Great Cut

These pants are a great cut/shape. I'm 5'6/130# and went for a size 8 (too big) so will have to exchange for a size down. Also, the knee articulation is a bit low but I can live with that because otherwise the cut is very flattering.

            Totally Recommend These

I love these pants. I am 5'5" and 140lbs. I definitely have a larger rearside and thighs from lifting and a small waist. So often finding pants to fit both areas is rather difficult. I ordered the 10x31 so that they would be a little looser and they fit just like I want them to. The are still loose enough in the hip and thigh area without looking like I am swimming in my pants, which is what normally happens. They are also the perfect length. I agree that the extra space in the knee area is wonderful as well. I also liked the fact that they are slightly waterproof. Was caught in a rain storm the other day and the water just beeded up and brushed right off. Not sure if that was an original intent but it worked great for me. The back sits high enough to cover your rearside but does not have a mom jean approach. Overall they are a very flattering style and durable pant. I actually own three pairs in different colors and intend to buy more. They have now become my go to pants for work.

              new favorite pants!

These pants are simply awesome. I loved the extra room around the knees since I used them mainly for climbing in. They aren't too thick but they fit comfortably and worked great, plus they actually looked good instead of making you feel like you're wearing unisex clothes. I would recommend to everyone.

                Arc'teryx Rampart Pant back

                in Coffee Bean, size 4

                Arc'teryx Rampart Pant back

I think I ordered these in a previous year in a size 2 and they were too large. Not sure though. They are very cute on you! Mind if I ask your approx dimensions (I'm maybe 5'5" and 112 lbs.) Tend to have an issue with gap in the back of pants but low rise often solves this problem:( <3

                shorter girls beware

These ARE cute, but the articulated knees hang exceptionally low. Its a problem if you're shorter than average. To fix them you'd have to take them up above the knees, but below the (also low hanging) side pockets, which may be impossible. Otherwise they have a nice slim/junior fit that is true to size, but very different from the cut of most of the NF and Columbia stuff.

                  I love these pants!

I've been ordering and returning hiking pants for weeks now looking for the right pair - and I finally found them! I'm just not 100% sold on the dark brown color, so I may order them in another color. They are true to size. I'm 5'5" and the length is perfect. The boyfriend loved them on me too.

Hey- what size am I? On the sizing chart your have information on M (8-10) but the options for these pants have 8 and 10 as separate sizes. I'm waist 75cm full hip 102cm pant length full 79 cm. So am I a 8 or 10?

                    Best Answer

That's a difficult call, but I would go with the 10. I've had these for over a year now, and they tend to shrink a little in the wash, then re-expand as you where them, so they might be a little bit tight if you got the size eight. Your other option would be to order both and return the one that doesn't fit as well. Backcountry has discounted shipping labels, so it's only a few dollars more.

For what it's worth, these are pretty much the best pants ever. I've worn them close to 150 times in the past year, and they still look good.
