$99 for a pair of shorts?! Are you kidding me?! Yeah...that's what I thought. But I stumbled on a pair of these babies a few years ago somewhere on sale and I can't say enough about them...so this is what I'll say. I just dropped another hundy on a black pair here at Backcountry.com. Didn't hesitate. Let me put it this way. If I've used up my personally allowable number of days in a single piece of clothing and my Palisades are dirty, I'll friggin' shower in them to get them clean. They dry fast enough that I'm right back in them.
I think Tony the Tiger was wearing these shorts when he would talk about how grrrrrreat "they" were. Lets be real, these shorts are way better than frosted flakes.
The shorts are really light, but quite durable. Great to climb in, and hike in, and paddle in, and toss the frisbee in, and dance at concerts in.
I'm not the most buff guy in the world, but my legs definitely are not twigs and I'm definitely okay with the fit of these pants. If you are like most Americans, you may have an issue.
These shorts dry really really quickly, have zip pockets which rock, and are 'teryx quality. I expect to get many many years of use out of these guys. You can't go wrong.
I wear nothing but shorts and these are the best
I've had these for about a year and take them off for washing when I go to church on Sunday. The little pocket is perfect for my garage door remote when I am recumbent triking. Before these zippered pockets I lost a cell phone and several remotes while triking. The material is awesome! I don't think it will ever wear out. It dries as quickly as ANY material I have had. It fits well and doesn't bulge to rub and wear on the wheels. When it went on sale this year I waited too long and my size was not available. :-(. If I can get another pair my many pairs of high quality shorts will just have to never come out of the drawer. Left pocket wallet & spare batteries. Right pocket keys and cell phone. Upper pocket remote. I will not use a hip pocket. Don't like sitting on things.
12 August 2011THEY WENT ON SALE! YEA! I CAN GET ANOTHER PAIR - EVEN IF THEY ONLY HAVE BLACK!!!
Got the black. They are beautiful. Wish my first pair was black. It "ain't gonna" wear out!
Now you see 'em now you dont
Yup, you can self store these babies! Side cargo pocket is the money!
These shorts fit true to size. Fabric moves with you and is lightweight and cool in the heat. Just throw them in the washer, air dry and they are ready to go. Another fine product from Arc'teryx.
In general, I'm positive about these shorts. I would agree with one reviewer that the pockets are too low. But the fabric is stretchy and water resistant. I also agree that the fit is tailored to thinner men, like most of the Arc'teryx line. This is fine by me. I did however find that putting my wallet in the back pocket makes the shorts look very asymmetrical. The styling is a bit unconventional but I'm OK with that.
you got white thighs? not anymore.
I'm usually a 32in waist but went to 34in based on previous reviews and I'm glad I did. The 34 fit my waist well and the nylon belt worked well to pick up the little bit of slack. There is a very soft and comfortable inner waist band lining. I also liked the elasticity in the material....However, these shorts were way to short for my taste and I had to send em' back. I'm 5'9" and the cut on these shorts came about 3in above my knee when I was standing. Obviously, even shorter in stride. This could also contribute to some awkward pocket issues as related to in earlier reviews.If you are looking for tanner lower thighs and showing those bad boys off to everyone else passing you on the trail pick these up.
Pockets placed for a backpacking simian
I am a total ArcT junkie, and totally love my Palisade pants, but the main pockets on these shorts are just too low. I am not able to casually stick my hands in my pockets (without bending a bit at the waist... not a good look), and anything of substance placed in them bangs annoyingly against my thighs.
The upper pocket on the left side is ridiculously small... basically only useful for one of the following:
* tube of lip balm
* piece of tissue
* doggy poo bag (size small)
* single key
* rolled up dollar bill.
While I assume that the pockets were placed lower in order to avoid the waist belt on a large backpack, it just doesn't work for me in daily life which is required in order to get adequate value out of an $85 pair of shorts. I am bummed!
Comfortable, well designed shorts
An interesting array of reviews on these arcteryx shorts. These shorts fit me well. I like the cut. The pockets are handy (although the one on the upper right is a little odd as it's narrow -- maybe good for an ipod). Material dries fast and seems quite durable. I wear these shorts hiking, at the gym, in the water, at summer barbecues, whatever. They work for me.
How much of a give does the belt have ?...
How much of a give does the belt have ? I'm a 28 inch waist, will the 30 inch fit? (they don't make them below a 30!) Thanks!
Well these shorts have 6% Spandex in them so they have a lot of stretch to them. So combined with that and tightening the belt down you should be good to go.
odd side pocket
They fit true to size... very comfortable and light weight. I still do not get the odd size thigh pocket on the right leg?!? Seems to have been made for chap-stick or one single pen. Other than that they are a great pair of shorts. I've been using them mostly for running and some surfing( they dry very quickly).
Water park pants.
One of my fave shorts. An other good reason for buying these shorts. They are great for there ability to dry after being swamped at the water parks. I was the first person in the family to dry and the shorts came back to the same shape as when I entered the parks. Enough secure pockets and comfortable waist band for when it is hot and humid. The fit works for me. I am picking up another pair.
So many good things to say about them. Just one note on the size is that they are a bit tight in the butt. I have no butt and I normally wear 35". 35" W clothing is tuff to find so I normally have to go up or down. Normally I go down. I got these in a 36 and was surprised how tight in the butt they were. It isn't a problem and they are very comfortable but if have a big butt you may want to go up one size.
$90 shorts for people with no muscle
If you are built like a twig and you like wearing paper-thin material these shorts are for you. Waist size is accurate, however, if you have any muscle (or fat) on your legs you will be disappointed.
Just the opposite of first review-Great!
I love these shorts. I do a lot of hiking, but also a lot of sea kayaking. These shorts do both well. The fabric is stretchy and durable, and the cut is slim but not constricting. Basically, perfect for doing just about anything in the warm weather. I have to remind myself not to wear these around the house. I even took these shorts surfing last weekend and they performed fine.
Star Trek Vs the Village People
These are the weirdest pants I have bought since I bought a pair of Joe Namath replica hot pants when I was 12
The seem to be designed by a collaboration between star trek and the village people
Strange fabric and fit
Maybe I'm just too old; give me patagonia canvas anyday
