Indecipherable Granite to Big City

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 1"
    Weight: 165 lbs
    Size Purchased: 32

Oh man, I really love these things. I am a pretty standard 'active fit' guy and swear by any and all Patagonia gear labeled as such. I have a few Arc'teryx pieces and while the price tag can be a bit ridiculous, it truly does stand the test of time. If you're like me and read the Outdoor Gear Lab review of the women's pants version of these, then you may be a bit weary as well. However, I've found them to hold up great on granite. The fabric may seem a bit flimsy and might not hold up to the Monster Offwidth but shit, neither does my skin and I wouldn't wear these on something so heinous anyways. The built in belt, albeit a bit of a buldge, is a great feature and holds up well and is unnoticeable under a harness or crouched over on my 29er for long periods of time. They fit very true to size so, if you're teetering on the edge, I'd go up a size and use the built in belt to your advantage. I hardly ever use the regular shorts pockets whilst in the shit but are great when just cruising around. I've worn these during a 6 day romp in North Conway and a weekend long mind melt in Manhattan; Both in summer and both rad. I haven't tested the Gamma SL's, which are their climbing specific shorts, but they look quite similar and no where near as stylish. Super light, quick drying, hold's off odor and cut well for a trim person looking for something that isn't those stupid Prana Mojo shorts that every bolt clipping goon wears (I own two pairs and sport climb regularly). Bottom line, my new go to's that I (not kidding in the least) have worn every day since I got them a few months ago. Pull the trigger my friend, you won't be bummed!

Geotextile?

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

This is possibley the most uncomfortable material ever to find its way into the garment industry. Course, crinkly and stiff. I don't understand the good reviews with several reviewers saying they bought multiple pairs!! I smell a rat. You would have to be a masochist to wear these hiking.

Runs 1 size small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 6' 1"
    Weight: 205 lbs
    Size Purchased: 34

I haven't had the chance to wear the Palisades. I wear a 34 waist in all jeans and shorts and 34 in the Palisades where a little snug in waist. So returned and ordered the 36. The built in adjustment buckle provides plenty adjustment to correct for a too large waist. The 34's fit nice and slim thru seat and legs so I expect the 36 to fit perfect and not to big thru the seat-leg area

Best shorts ever but runs small

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 10"
    Weight: 160 lbs
    Size Purchased: 34

Since my first purchase of the Arc'teryx Palisade shorts in 2014 I was impressed with their feel and light weight. This year so far I have purchased an additional three pair. They do however run on the small side. For comparison I purchased the size 34 and most fit perfect.
Where as the Arc'teryx Rampart shorts in a size 34 are loose in the waist by about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. The same with my old Levis and Wrangler Jeans which I wear a size 32. I plan to purchase more as new colors come out.

Just a note. There is about a half inch difference in the waist between the pairs of Palisade shorts I own. The black pair is slightly tight where as the Wrought Iron is a little loose in the waist

Best shorts ever!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Easily the best shorts I own and I own MANY! I could wear this all day long and do anything in it. They look smart enough to go out for dinner in and it's tough enough for most of what the great outdoors can throw at it. Climb, hike, kayak, u name it! Best fitting shorts I've ever worn.

Responded on

Absolutely true EXCEPT it was awful when the stopped putting a zipper on the hand pockets. "There goes another cell phone!" and I have no idea where it fell out. Last time, within an hour of loosing it, the finder made a bunch of phone calls to Mexico that I had to pay for.

Awesome Shorts

I'm on the east coast, in Northern VA, and until I can change this unfortunate situation, I need to wear clothes that are comfortable in this humid and muggy climate. I no longer wear cotton, and the Arteryx Palisade Shorts are just perfect. They fit well and are true to size, are comfortable in any climate, dry fast, are durable and color fast, and the khaki colored pairs I bought during 2011 and 2012 are now joined by two pairs in graphite for 2013. These are my go-to shorts now.

Great Short!

These are comfortable, breathable and quick drying. They have also held up to significant abuse from Rock Climbing. They're a little pricey, but worth it.

Responded on

They are worth that price and more if they would just put the zippers back on the slash pockets.

The Best Short I have

A little expensive, but feel really good. I can't find another short feel better than this one. Strongly recommend!

Most Excellent Shorts

yes, expensive. But the best shorts I have ever owned. I purchased 4 pairs. I have come to really like shorts with no pockets in the rear.

Pricy but a great pair of shorts

I am somewhat ashamed to admit how deeply in love with these shorts I have fallen. It chagrins me to have paid significantly more for a pair of shorts than for my first car. I own an older version of the same item -- I like these a lot, but Arc'teryx has greatly improved the pockets on the later ones.

Pros: Comfortable, durable (I have had the old ones for a couple years of 2.5-season use and the material has held up), super-quick drying, great zipper pockets to defy both pickpockets and the cruel forces of gravity.
Cons: Price

"The One Shorts"

Best shorts EVER. I crack up my wife, calling them "The One Shorts". They weigh nothing, dry instantly and are super comfy with the soft inner waist. Looks like they got rid of the "little pocket" this year. I liked it - it was dedicated to carrying a micro leatherman. Crazy expensive and crazy worth it.

Responded on

I HATE that they got rid of that pocket!!!!!. I have two pair and won't wear anything else

The Perfect Short

Very fitted cut combined with light, stretchy fabric and excellent construction result in amazing shorts. Go anywhere, do anything shorts; I've scraped down rocks, swam, hiked, jogged in them - better than anything else I can recall, and yet they are stylish enough to dress up for casual evening wear.

Comfy Shorts

Compared to the Rampart shorts, these are a little slimmer and shorter, hitting right above my knee.

These are nylon, so they do make a faint swishing noise when I walk. Not noticeable unless you're in a really quiet place.

I usually hang my keys from a carabiner attached to a belt loop but since these have an integrated belt, there are no loops. A minor complaint, otherwise these are my favorite shorts ever.
