Arc’teryx gave the Men’s Maverick AR Jacket a trim fit for a streamlined look and easy layering with other performance pieces. This stretchy, quick-dry, breathable fleece feels smooth on the outer face and warm on the inside. The Maverick AR Jacket offers excellent sleek-fit insulation when you’re hiking the high trails on a cool day, and you can layer it under a windproof, waterproof shell for winter sports.
Bottom Line: Ditch your boxy old fleeces for one so sophisticated and well-designed that it fits in the city too.
I really appreciate which details were paid attention to in this jacket. The cut and fit is exceptional. This jacket moves with you well as in it doesn't ride up when you raise your arms out and gives you good freedom of movement. It's warm, probably somewhere inbetween 200 and 300 wieght fleece, but is exactly the opposite of bulky. This jacket looks sharp on it's own, but also is the perfect layer under a shell because there isn't a bunch of extra fabric around your arms, your gut, your armpits, etc to content with the shell. The sleeve pocket holds a phone or mp3 player well, and the hand pockets are actually enormous - they cleverly run from the waistband up to the seam at your collar bone, and are large enough for a 1 liter water bottle with room to spare. And the pulls for the drawsting waist are found inside. The zippered hand pockets are at a great spot, too, high enough for a harness or pack, yet still at a comfortable and natural level for handwarming. Arc'teryx kept thier name and logo subtle yet visible so you don't feel like you're a walking advertisement, but if people want to know who made such a great jacket it's there. A lifetime warranty makes it a complete package. well done.
I like to use my fleece jackets as a stand-alone layer on days without precip and as a form of insulation under a shell. The Maverick AR is fantastic for both; constructed well and versatile. If I'd change anything, I would add a chest zip pocket...I've had one on every fleece jacket and have been used to the convenience. Still, a great jacket!
The denali is 300 weight fleece, and is definatly thicker. This jacket is more of a 200 weight in terms of thickness, but is "nailhead" fleece, which seems to be spun a little tighter so it's going to be warmer than a standard 200 wieght piece, wear better, and looks sharper (in my opinion). None the less it's probably not quite as warm as the denali. This jacket is definatly more fitted than the denali, so it looks better on you and layers under shells better, but you can't stack layers underneath it quite as well. It doesn't have pit zips or 2 chest pockets like the denali (that can be a plus or minus depending on how you look at it). Bottom line is I ordered a Denali, kept it for a couple days *wanting* to like it, but just couldn't. I returned it and tried this jacket next, and I am keeping my maverick AR.

I bought this on SC last year when it was on sale at 50% off. I wouldn't buy unless it was on sale. It's just a fleece, no superior fabric or anything. It's got Arcteryx brand and has a nice cut but honestly it's a fleece jacket, nothing more nothing less.
Very nice jacket. I bought this to go under my Arcteryx Theta AR which is a size M. I normally wear a large, but in the Theta Ar I needed a medium. I first bought the Maverick AR in a medium thinking it would be sized like the Theta Ar, but I had to return the Maverick AR for a large. Nice jacket, I like the nailhead finish and the long arm length. It does seem a little pricey for a fleece jacket, but I'm hoping that the nailhead fleece will last longer and not show as much wear as my old north face fleece jackets did.
Got this just in time for a fall whitewater trip. When we got back to camp I was near freezing and this thing warmed me right up in minutes and kept me warm into the late night. It has laminated pockets and waterproof zippers. Can't say enough about how much I like this jacket. Time will tell about the durability but so far so good...
I really appreciate which details were paid attention to in this jacket. The cut and fit is exceptional. This jacket moves with you well as in it doesn't more...
I like to use my fleece jackets as a stand-alone layer on days without precip and as a form of insulation under a shell. The Maverick AR is fantastic for more...
