Mountain-town women need lifestyle clothing that will step up when the weather turns sour. The Arc'teryx Women's Handler Fleece Hoody has casual appeal, feminine cut, and technical assets. Arc'teryx designed this Polartec fleece with a close fit and a corduroy finish that look great around town. But when a walk home from the post office turns into a arctic trek, you'll appreciate the exceptional warmth, lightweight, and quick-drying properties this fleece offers. Articulated elbows and no-lift gusseted underarms increase your range of movement, making everything from dog-walking to ice-climbing more comfortable.

Bottom Line: Unassuming looks. Teched-out fit and fleece performance.

soft and warm!

I have this jacket in Canary. The yellow is a little darker than the picture shows, and I love it.

I'm 5'4", 130 lbs, and according to the size chart, a medium. It fits well, with a little extra space around the waist. I've got room to layer. I probably could have gotten a small if I didn't have big swimmer's shoulders.

It's thin, but warmer than it seems like it would be. It'll be great for layering once the weather gets cold again!

warmer than you think

I wear medium in most every outdoor brand, very solid medium. I got this in a medium and was satisfied on the fit being a true medium. It is a athletic medium fit...so know that when picking your size. this is very warm, or cool...depending on what you use it for. When I first got it I thought it was a bit thin. but I wore it and was surprised at how warm it kept me. I have used it to layer under shells and down coats and it helps keep me warm, but helps my skin breath so I do not get all sweaty underneath the layers. Like I said it breaths really well and again very warm for how lightweight it is. I have this in Jade color and it is not as blue as it shows it is a very green color. a pretty green but it is green still. The pockets are nice and I like that they zip up so you don't loose things out of it. very good quality, very satisfied with my purchase. looking forward to some great spring cool weather hiking in it and not needing to take and put on layers as I get warm and cold.

I would like to use this jacket skiing with a waterproof shell

I would like to use this jacket skiing with a waterproof shell when necessary. I currently own the Burton North Star full-zip hoodie and wear that as my 'warmth' piece with 1-2 other underlayers which are breathable (ie merino). I ski in NH, and we often get temps right around or below 32F. The problem I've found with the Burton North Star is that 1) in extreme temps it's not warm enough, and 2) it doesnt breathe very well (ie I sweat). In light of that, here are my questions regarding the Handler, the North Star, as well as the I/O Bio Merino Signature Hooded Sweater:

1) Could you rate all three of them from warmest to least warm?
2) Could you rate all three of them from most breathable to least breathable?

Here are the links for the other two jackets:

Thanks muchly!

yellow jacket

The fleece is extremely comfortable and it hugs you're form well. It is thick enough to keep out light rain, but its weaving makes it breathable so its not overwhelmingly hot. If you're getting the canary color as I did though, be aware that it is a much more saturated yellow than in the picture. Overall, a great little mild weather jacket.

Love this jacket

By:

I absolutely love this jacket. I have 4 of the hooded version and 3 of the non hooded. Unfortunately, I don't think they are making the non hooded at the moment. Living in Seattle I use this jacket year round. It is great for running errands, walking the dog and traveling. The colors are cute and the fabric and cut make this a very stylish fleece. It is not bulky and is quite feminine. I am 5'5", 110 and the small is a nice fit.

Cute and Warm

By:

This jacket (more like an amazing fleece) is super warm and has a really flattering fit. I am 5'6 125lb and the small was a perfect fit. The hood fits nice and snug around my head so when the wind blows my ears are nice and toasy. Perfect arm length, perfect torso length and the light green color is really cute. Love it.

Um... I have 3

I got this jacket in the basmati (cream), jade and raisin. Im 5'3" and 110lbs and at first I got the small. Its very comfortable, but a bit baggy. The next two were both xs and they were more fitted, but a tad tight in the wrist. I wear them like you would a regular hoody and they are very warm. The material is thin- not at all bulky, so I can wear them around town. I comfort is what you are looking for, this is it!

if you aren't over 5 feet tall...

By:
March 6, 2009

So, I am not sure who Arcteryx makes their stuff for because I am always a solid small and on rare occasion medium in Patagonia. I am not abnormally tall (5'8") and not ridiculously skinny (135)...but the small in this hoodie was right below my bellybutton and the medium was just about the same length but was huge around the middle. If I were 8 months pregnant, it would have been a great fit...but alas, I am not. Sad I had to return both sizes since the Jade was pretty.
