Show the mountain who wears the pants when you get vertical in the Arc'teryx Gamma SV Softshell Pant. Even if the snowy, rocky giant tries to assert dominance, rest assured knowing you're protected by Arc'teryx's stretchy, breathable, water- and wind-resistant Fortius 3.0 fabric.

  • Gusseted crotch allows full range of motion for more acrobatic moves on technical faces
  • Ample pockets help organize your snack, camera, and emergency transmitter
  • Stretch pant cuffs with adjustable drawcords and lace hooks allow you to fully seal out cold and snow

Bottom Line: Don't get caught with your pants down.

If you are using it as a midlayer they are both fine choices. As an outer layer you will fell the bite of the wind. They are not windproof softshells so once the temps drop and you are moving down the hill the wind cuts through the shell. They are best served as a mid layer for cold days and an outer layer when the skies are sunny and the temps are just around the freezing mark.

I'd probably go with the MX - Trim fit vs. Athletic fit.

Is the cuff on these pants large enough to fit around ski boots

Is the cuff on these pants large enough to fit around ski boots for ski mountaineering?

The cuff on the Gamma MX will fit tightly over lower profile ski mountaineering boots, but it would be tough to get them over a standard Alpine boot. You may want to check the Gamma SK, which offers similar weather protection, a bit more breathability and a larger cuff that will easily fit over any ski boot and offers a mini-gaiter.
