The Gamma SV Jacket is Arc'Teryx's best-selling jacket. This altruistic alpine softshell covers women with versatile weather protection. Its durable and highly breathable Polartec Power Shield fabric moves through each season without backing down. The water-resistant Gamma SV Jacket works beautifully as a spring-to-fall outer shell or dead-of-winter mid layer. A practical waist length and with hem-mounted drawcord ensures that the Gamma SV Jacket will layer well with other garments and won't interfere with a climbing harness. *Available for US shipment only.
Bottom Line: The Gamma SV has been leading the way in softshell technology for years, and it continues to impress.
I have had these jackets for years. I can not say enough about them....they are great for spring/fall, under shell jackets in winter and even in the summer (camping in the mountains). They wash and wear FANTASTIC!!!
I've had this jacket for a month now and am really loving it. I also own the Gamma MX - so I can give a comparison. The SV is slightly thicker (probably the fleece) than the MX. Both block wind and insulate well. The SV only has two pockets and they're located higher up. If you like to walk/stand with your hands in your pockets, you would be better off buying the MX. The location of pockets is the biggest difference between the two. Both are well tailored with a flattering cut. I am 5'6", 130 lbs, and am a C/D cup - the medium fits me perfectly. The small is snug across the chest. The quality of these soft shells is far superior to anything else. I also bought the vest - look for my review on that.

Great jacket that is outstanding in fit and function. Warmth and dryness without all the bulk. If traveling- it's the perfect all occasion/all sport jacket- I went from sailing in the north sea to the Bolshoi Ballet!
The best jacket. One lady flattered me with this jacket, she was loaded with Mountain Hardwear, REI. I never got praised for my clothes in my long life. No flaw in details, very fit. (not like easyrider which has this huge extra portion on shoulder area and you will look fakely masculine).
This jacket is so comfortable and very windproof. My only complaint is I wish the zipper was two way for venting. It looks very stylish and fits my body great. It has been a little too warm for jogging in fall weather, but it will be great for winter jogging. I wore it bike riding on a cool day and it was perfect keeping wind out and warmth in. If it is on sale, I would but another color. Also, it dries amazingly fast.
Great jacket. Warm, windproof, comfortable. It was great for fall biking, kept me warm and kept wind out. It also washes nicely and dries super quick. If it goes on sale I would buy another. My only complaint would be it does not have a two way zipper for venting. Great alone for cold weather aerobic activity or layered under a shell.
Since I don't wear the jacket, I can't comment too much on the garment itself, but I'll do the best I can. I bought my wife the red color in XS (she's about 5'3" and 112 pounds). She really likes the color and tight fit of the jacket. My wife does wear this a lot, mainly because it's warm and doesn't have too much bulk (it's thin and snug-fitting). It's a great jacket for wearing when going out casually on a chilly night.
Great jacket, fits great and looks good. Arcteryx has managed to make waterproof zippers that actually zip! (As opposed to some that are too stiff to move). The various pulls have plastic ends that make them easy to feel with gloves on.
Still...there are a few weak spots. For reasons I don't understand, Arcteryx put the zipper for the chest pocket in the middle of the pocket (instead of to the side). This means that, while the pocket is normally sized, it is difficult to even get a Cliff bar in there! The hood barely fits over a Giro ski helmet. I have yet to find a real use for the arm pocket, seems it adds cost without adding value.
Despite a few complaints (and the high price), this is by far the best hardshell I have seen.
This jacket is the nicest jacket I have ever owned. It is a very flattering cut that allows movement when needed. It is a hardy softshell that is very well made. It is such a wonderful jacket that I purchased 2 more. I was afraid that Arc'teryx would not make this style next year. I know they are pricey but I am sure all of my jackets will last a very long time. Not only do they look very nice, they are very comfy. I use them for backpacking, hiking, and just going around town. Worth every penny!
Very nice jacket, fitted style but with room for a baselayer. Arc'Teryx is slightly higher in price than some other lines but the quality has never disappointed me.
I have only had Gamma SV for about two weeks and I love it. It's warm and very weather resistent...not to mention that it fits very well. It it the perfect piece of gear!
I love this jacket! I give it a 5 stars even though I never planned to pay this much for a soft shell. But trust me, it is worth it! I will buy it again. It fits me perfectly...detail cutting, great fabric, and curves that makes me look great. Highly recommended!
After going on a backcountry ski trip where the majority of people were wearing softshells, I must say I get cold easily. I am not that warm in the jacket when inactive, and find it doesn't breathe all that well when ski-hiking with a pack on. My friends say it's because of the fabric, that the Schoeller fabrics breathe better. Love the look and fit though. For my purposes a hood would be useful too.
I bought a Gamma SV for myself and loved it so much that I got one for my girlfriend's birthday. It fits her perfectly, looks great, and she loves it, too.
I have friends who work in the outdoor gear industry, who recommend The North Face for mid-range, but if you really want superior material and manufacturing (and don't mind paying the hefty price tag), then Arc'Teryx is the way to go. Love the jacket, it's quite close fitting so if you want to bulk layer, you might consider ordering a size up. If I had to change one thing, though, it would be to make the sleeves wider. The cuffs come in quite tight at the wrist, making it impossible to pull up sleeves and sometimes feel weird. I'm sure it's a wind-protection thing, but still not crazy about the cuffs. Otherwise, it's great!
I have been wanting an Arc' teryx jacket for some time now and was finally able to afford one because of the discontinued color on your website. This jacket is perfect and super flattering! When I first put it on, my husband said "you could model that thing" You girls will love it! It's also very windproof and allows a lot of flexibility in your movement.
The Gamma SV has proven to be very versatile, whether I'm hiking in Colorado or going to the grocery. It's lightweight design allows it to be worn over almost anything without adding bulk. It launders great and provides and added layer of protectoin/warmth that is needed for the extreme temperature swings in Colorado.
My husband bought this jacket for me and insisted I keep it, even though I didn't need it. Now, this is all I wear! We live in a moderate climate (NC) so I can really wear this jacket all year. It is warm, comfortable, flexible, and fitted to a woman's shape. This is the best all-purpose jacket I have ever owned!
I just bought this jacket and it kicked butt in some nasty weather. It is worth every penny of its price. I was up at Mammoth Lakes, CA and this jacket stood up to temps in the low 20s and winds that were howling at 40mph-plus. The wind couldn't touch meI felt invisible to the weather. With a long-sleeve shirt underneath this, I was good to go on the long 4 mile trek to the top of Mammoth Mountain, at 11,000ft. The winds were blowing so hard that it was difficult to stand up and walk a straight line. But was I cold? Nope. Great jacket, a bit pricey but worth every single cent. I'm considering buying another one. BTW, I love the lifetime warranty!!
I bought my first Gamma SV 4 years ago and I've worn it almost every day since. It picked up a smell, kind of a cross between body funk and Chinese food, and I just couldn't get rid of it (it went through MANY washes). So I bought a new one. I think I'll give my old one to a friend who lives in a barn. I don't think she'll notice the smell. It's still a great jacket.
