The Arc'teryx Women's Gamma SV Hooded Jacket features high-loft Polartec softshell fabric with insulation backing on the torso and shoulders for max heat retention. A thinner Polartec softshell fabric on the arms and sides, along with four-way stretch and gusseted underarms, provides plenty of freedom to move, so you can climb or ski unhindered. The Gamma SV Hoody resists wind and moisture, covers your hips, and has a drop back hem to fend off the elements. Arc'teryx added a helmet-compatible hood and a trim, feminine fit to let you move without restrictions.
Bottom Line: Warmth, breathability, and weather protection for your alpine pursuits.
I bought this jacket in Fushia-size small-it fits awesome and is really warm!!It's not bulky and actually has a nice amount of stretch. The jacket tends to run a little big.
The Arc'teryx Gamma MX uses a slightly lighter face fabric and low loft fleece, whereas this Gamma SV uses highloft fabric in the body, and low loft under the arms to reduce bulk. This thing is warm!
sleeves stretched out over my hands after the 2nd full day of powder skiing!! good wind deflector, but cant really wear it cause i have no hand access anymore!

The gamma sv is going to be a good weather-resistant softshell jacket that provides a fair amount of warmth and a fair amount of coverage. I'm not sure when you sit down if the jacket will actually be long enough to cover your butt - if that is a factor for you. You just need to be aware that this jacket is not 100% windproof (Powershield is ~90%), nor is it waterproof (just DWR treated). If these limitations are OK for how you envision using the jacket then it should be great - this jacket will be very breathable and help prevent overheating and sweating. If you need something more weatherproof - you probably want to look at a hardshell jacket.
If you live in a place with wind chills ~ 0-10F or below and you want to go for a run and tend to get cold, this is the very best jacket. It is comfortable and if you get a bit hot, you can zip it down part way. I think it runs a bit smaller than other Arc'teryx jackets, so I would definitely order a size up, especially if you wnat to run in it and be comfy. It fits really great, looks fantastic. If you live in a warmer climate, it is great walking jacket or all around. Have fun, get the red one; it is a very becoming color for most people.
I ordered this jacket when it was on sale and am so glad I did! I love Arc'teryx but they're so expensive most of the time. This jacket is phonomenal. It's great in a rainstorm or just for running around town on a cooler day. You don't overheat, which is great for weather that can't make up its mind.
This jacket is amazing, stretchy-smooth on the outside, warm with fuzzy-fleece patches on just the right places inside, re-enforced elbow areas are pretty nice too! Nearly waterproof (I haven't been in a downpour, but walking a few minutes in fairly moderate rain I was totally dry. Feels windproof but definitely breathable. It fits great!- I'm 5'10" , 130lbs with long arms and torso- jackets are usually too short in both areas but this one (medium size for me) feels like it was custom made for me! I feel very stylish hiking, camping, or just running around town. Pocket placement is good for wearing with my technical daypack. (and at 1/2 off you couldn't beat the price for arcteryx either!)
