Great lightweight jacket

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size
  • Size Bought: XL. Trim but workable.

I have a Gamma AR and a Gamma LT so far. The Gamma SL completes a trifecta of my favorite jacket. The SL is windproof, water resistant and more compressible than the other two. It has room for a thin layer underneath. I have worn it comfortably into the 40's and I expect it would go lower but we have had no cold weather yet this year. Works well in the rain for a soft-shell and is light and breathable for active wear. I also got the SL pants and I like them very much. Good stretch for the jacket and the pants and will be great for backpacking, climbing and the like.

Love it so far.

Luckily we go some snow, but went backcountry skiing three times during the week and I almost never had to take this jacket off the whole day. Just a lightweight wool base layer underneath. Temps in the hi twenties to low thirties. Would put my puffy vest on over it at transitions and stay warm enough. It was very breathable when necessary. Fit a

Was trim, sz M and I am 5'11" 178 lbs.

At what temperature will this jacket keep you warm while stationary, and also hiking?

SL in the Arc'teryx naming scheme means superlight, and the gamma jackets are designed for abrasion resistance and light weather resistance while remaining really breathable. To answer your question though, i'd say it really depends on you personally. For instance, I tend to run warm. This jacket would probably keep me warm in lower temperatures than some other people. That being said, its a super light, breathable, uninsulated jacket. I think for most people to keep warm in this jacket, they are going to have to be moving if its cold out.
