The Arc'teryx Gamma Salopette is a must-have suit for your next mountaineering objective. These Arc'teryx overalls are an integrated vest and pant made from hardworking Polartec Power Shield. Developed to be used as a midlayer in extreme cold situations, or with base layers when the intensity heats up, the Gamma Salopette quickly adapts to the task at hand. The now famous Arc'teryx WaterTight zippers access side vents and a through-the-crotch opening that allows you to answer nature's call from even the highest precipice. Integrated instep patches resist wear and tear from crampons or approach skis. Breathable, wind and water resistant fabrics stretch with you, ensuring you have maximum mobility up frozen waterfalls and over frosty summits. Built in kneepad-pockets house EVA foam kneepads to offer added protection. The soft brushed interior of these ascent ready overalls means, that once back at base camp, you may never want to take them off. *Available for US shipment only.

Bottom Line: The Salopette is a technical and versatile addition to your winter mountaineering wardrobe.

Great Mountain Gear

I use the Gamma Salopette for climbing, snow-shoeing and anytime a softshell pant is needed. I spend a lot of time in the mountains above 10 thousand feet and was at first concerned about layering as the upper is also insulated but found that the zip front gave all the ventilation control I needed with a mid weight upper underneath in a near 0 to 35 degree range with a softshell jacket. Light weight bottoms were all I needed and the side zips work great to control temp when I am working full out on snow-shoes or a steep ascent. It is great to have really free movement without bunching or pressure at the waist. I now only use my old softshell pants to walk the dog.

Good for expeditions

I would recommend the Gamma Salopette for expeditions where every once counts and when you need clothing options. The Powershield Gamma Salopette can be worn as an outer layer when using zip-through Rho bottoms as underwear, or as a mid-layer when using the zip-through Alpha SV bib or Theta LT pants. If you're into day trips I would recommend the Gamma MX pants. Downside: The rise and inseam is short for anyone over 6'2" and they feel like underwear when worn as an outer layer as there are no pants pockets. Very expensive as well. A fleece bib would do the same if you don't plan on taking off your hard-shells.
