Here's what others have to say...

I hope somebody can help me. I have used...

I hope somebody can help me. I have used this jacket for a few years and love it. Now I would like to get one for my girlfriend for Xmas but I am unsure about the size. She is about 5ft 3 and 110-112 lbs with a slim/athletic build. Should I go with XS or S. Thanks for your advice.

Responded on

I think a small would work best so that she could layer underneath it, XS if you would want a tighter fit and maybe 1-2 thin layers underneath. For further reference, I am 5'5", ~125 athletic build and would wear a medium.

Excellent jacket

It might be worth a gentle reminder to others that it really pays to research any piece of outdoor equipment to make sure it's designed to do what you want it to do.

This is a reasonably light and very well made jacket. My wife absolutely loves her Gamma. With one baselayer under it, she stayed very comfortable in 25 degree temps as we sedately hiked and snowshoed over 7-8 miles. And light snow just falls right off it.

Overall, she's very happy with the jacket, but then, she uses it for what it's intended for, when she's outside in the elements being active.

Size: she's 5'5", busty, about 128 lbs, and the Small fits her perfectly.

Price paid: $140 on SAC.

Loved the fabric but...

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The new Fortius fabric seemed great. I loved the feel and the weight of the jacket, it was soft and felt good but the cut was wrong for my body. Arc'teryx's smalls have always fit my body very well, (5'4-135lb) the athletic, next to skin, trim and relaxed had always fit me, but this jacket didn't. My main problem was that it was built too busty. I had too much space up top which resulted in a strange and unattractive fit. I don't know if i just got a incorrectly cut jacket or if they are all like that.

Nice update from previous version

I had the previous version of this jacket, so I knew that it was a lightweight softshell with little insulation when I ordered it. This is a very nice update from the previous version. I like the fabric better. This jacket is just what I wanted. I wasn't too sure when I ordered the Bondi Blue, so I ordered a black one just in case, but I kept the blue as it's a great color. This is not going to be my primary jacket, but I like to have a variety of jackets--one for every purpose and weather condition (ultra lightweight, lightweight, Gore-Tex, Windstopper, softshell, warm synthetic insulation, down, etc.). This one should see use year round, although only in winter with layers for active pursuits.

I have the Arcteryx Atom SV hoody and absolutely love it. This jacket appears more sleek and modern looking in the photo than it is in reality. The fabric is THIN, REALLY THIN as in no insulation. This is a very pricey piece and I was disappointed in the unlined pockets - they are literally netting - no warm fabric. Although I would say that Arcteryx is top of the line when it comes to outerwear, I really didn't care for this jacket for day to day wear. I currently have a NF Apex Bionic that is much more comfortable (although not as well-made). I am 5'7"/125 and an athlete - a small was much looser than I was hoping for in the torso. I live in northern CA and was looking for a softshell that I could wear on a regular basis. Bottom line for me is that I didn't love it so I returned it.
