Zip up the Arc'teryx Men's Gamma AR Vest and hike till your legs can't move another inch. Arc'teryx designed this technical, low-bulk vest as an outer layer to safeguard core warmth and deliver an increased range of motion and breathability. Two different Polartex Power Shield textiles combine with a DWR finish to deliver highly breathable warmth and excellent wind and moisture resistance. Arc'teryx gave the Gamma AR Vest a lighter weight backpanel to enhance breathability and comfort so you can move for miles in warm comfort.

Bottom Line: Low-bulk warmth and mobility by Arc'teryx.

Is this Arc teryx vest much better than the Mtn Hardware wind-stopper?It cost about three times as much. I have other Arc teryx gear and i love it, but this vest seems pricey. Is it worth the extra cash ?

It's much more stretchy, as well as breathable, but only very slightly less wind resistant. Plus the Arcteryx quality is always higher.

Great material but not true to size.

I'm 6' and 155 lbs. I ordered a medium and it was too loose and baggy and a small would have been too short. So I sent it back and got the Mountain Hardwear medium vest which fits perfect.

They have slightly different patterns, the AR vest is basically last years SV vest.-----------------------------------------I tried on the AR and then bought the SV lured by the 50% off, the huge difference is the shoulders of the AR are the 2-way stretch which keeps the arm holes tight. The SV has the Powershield all over and the shoulders end up flaring out too far and not conforming as well to the shoulder joint making a big scoop for cold air. (I refused to believe the others who said this and I was proven wrong.) I'm sadly sending my SV back.

Is there a break out chart of all the Arcteryx acronyms and "code labels"?
Ive sort of figured that "SL" is the "super light" stuff for marc twight / bouchard type fast ascents.

As far as I can tell the Alpha stuff is mre heavy duty "expedition" where the "Beta" stuff appears to be more targeted to "alpine" climbers..
