Good touring pants

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I've used these pants now about a half dozen days, all ski touring.

In general, they're very good touring pants. They are pretty warm for softshell pants, but I can wear them comfortably without long underwear in CA winter conditions, so no big deal. The vents are a very nice feature when you're getting hot on the skin track. For spring conditions, I would wear something lighter. They'd be a bit warm for me on corn days.

The fabric sheds water well. The pockets are well thought out. I like the cargo pockets for stashing hats/snacks. Easily accessible this way. The belt works well and the suspenders also function nicely. Minimalistic but functional. Like most Arc Teryx products, they seem very well made.

My only gripe is the cuffs/gaiters. They're pretty small and quite tight. It's tough (although not impossible) to fit them over touring boots with the buckles open for skinning. Even with the boot buckled for skiing, the cuffs/gaiters are a bit on the tight side. If this was corrected they'd be perfect IMO.

Great WindStopper softshell

For a softshell pant with Windstopper these pants are great. They offer great heat management with the more than ample side zips. These pants do have a soft brushed backer that keeps you toasty on colder days, but can be overkill if you are looking for a spring softshell pant. The built in waist belt is functional and not too bulky. I sized up to a Large for a more comfortable fit.

    Great So Far

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size

Been these using these pants for ski touring in the North Cascades since December. Love the breathability and big side vent for sweaty climbs. Given the description, I expected them to almost be too warm, but have not found that to be the case. Wish that there was some sort of zipper on the bottom of the leg to give more room when boots are in walk mode.

    I love these pants!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size

I use these as my primary pants for ski touring/mountaineering in the Canadian Rockies.

Function-These pants are very versatile with the combination of windstopper fabric and the side venting, sometimes on the warm side during the spring. The suspenders and built in belt are great and reduce bulk around the waist area which is great when wearing a harness and a pack. The suspenders can be removed to suit your preference. The hip pockets are adequate, love the horizontal openings to prevent things from falling out accidentally. I also love the two thigh (cargo) pockets, perfect for carrying things like a map, compass and GPS.

Fit-These have an athletic fit. I wear a medium and it fits perfectly. For comparision, I wear jeans with the dimensions of 33X32. I am 5'8", 165lbs.

Durability-Has held up very well. The ski guards in the inside of the cuffs have no cuts after two seasons of use, only minor scuffs.

    Stay classy

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

These are great touring pants. And damn they look good. So many times I was in a rush to get to work after ice climbing or ski touring and just left them on and didn't feel like the goober at work wearing ski pants. They move well, the fit is great. The side vents are huge! Allowing you to fully ventilate during heinous climbs. I have had water run all over these while climbing but never got through or felt wet. The gaiters cinch up well and the instep patches are so burly they just deflect ski edges and crampon points. These are a great all around softshell pant.

    face fabric snags easily

    • Gender:Male
    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I own a lot of Arcteryx products and this is the first that I have been less than satisfied with. My only complaint about these is the durability of the face fabric. I accidentally walked into a small "blackberry bush" while hiking and it snagged the face fabric in every single spot that a thorn had made contact. If these were cheaper pants I would understand, but they aren't! I was unpleasantly surprised at how easily this occurred. I won't be keeping these.

The fit and everything else about these pants is sad . I will continue to use Arcteryx but the windstopper fabric is not what I expected

    Fury AR pants

Great pants, perfect 4 season softshell option. Used them for some spring skiing at the bush. Warm, very breathable, the rear thigh venting is a very nice option to have especially for those warm days doing work through the woods. I'm 5'10" about 160 with an athletic build and the medium/regular fit is perfect. As all Arcteryx products the construction is bar none, very durable and well thought out. The only problem is the front thigh pockets, they're virtually useless skiing, anything you put in them kinda gets annoying but I ski with a pack so it doesn't really matter to me. Looking forward to doing some hiking in these babies. Defiantly would recommend.
