Description

A cold day at the resort is just another day in paradise.

Strong gusts of stormy winds blow snow all over the ski resort, but you couldn't care less since you have the Arc'teryx Men's Fission AR Insulated Jacket wrapped across your body. Falling temps are no longer an issue with 100g Coreloft insulation warming you up, and a Gore-Tex 2-layer membrane with fully taped seams wraps up that insulation with guaranteed waterproof and breathable protection that keeps you dry and comfortable while you shred those snowy slopes. Plus, Arc'teryx reinforced the shoulders, elbows, hood, collar, and other areas of high use with Gore-Tex Pro 3-layer fabric for long lasting durability.

An athletic fit pulls the Fission AR close to your body without restricting your mobility on the mountain, and articulated elbows enhance your freedom of movement. The laminated brim on the hood helps keep wetness off your face, and you can roll the Stow Hood in its collar when the sun pokes out. WaterTight external zippers increase this jacket's waterproof protection in ways that most jackets don't. Laminated hook-and-loop cuffs seal out those blustery blizzards, and the drop-back hem adds more coverage across your backside even when you bend over to strap on your bindings.

I would like to know if this jacket is...

I would like to know if this jacket is waterproof and if it can provide me enough warmth(combined with a mid layer fleece sweter).I am intend to use it in mid mountaineering expeditions and in cold weather conditions. As I will spend the next winter in Northern Europe I would like to know if it is suitable for the purposes I need it for.

The jacket would be great for those conditions definitely warm enough maybe too warm with a fleece. Remember this does have 100 g of synthetic insulation built into it.

As long as its not a down pour this jacket will keep you dry, definitely dry if its snowing, as long as its not big heavy wet flakes and you always brush the snow off with your hand or general movement. Gotta remember though no jacket is 100% water proof in a rain storm, unless its a rubber slicker which doesnt breathe. The nice part about this jacket is if it does get wet in a rain storm that synthetic insulation will dry extremely quickly but, it will take some time as there will be water held inside the jacket.

I personally suggest getting a layering system. Get a shell only, then have the synthetic layer in your pack and be wearing the fleece. This way you can mix and match, if the jacket gets wet with the fleece, the jacket will dry much faster without the synthetic insulation attached to it. Put the fleece in your pack and let it dry, and then be wearing the synthetic.

Northern Europe is tough, Ive never been but, I can imagine you encounter rain at some point, for that type of weather a straight up jacket will be the best option I think. Take a look at something that uses a Neo Shell, its almost as waterproof but, it breathes way better so you can wear it in a rain storm and keep moving. This way you not only block the rain from the sky but the sweat being created by your skin. There is a reason Rab is based in the UK and use Neo Shell. http://www.backcountry.com/rab-stretch-neo-jacket-mens?ti=U2VhcmNoIFJlc3VsdHM6cmFiIG5lb3NoZWxsOjE6MjpyYWIgbmVvc2hlbGw&skid=RAB0130-MAY-S Check out Mr. Mike Crushing's review, he loves this thing, I am buying one next year.

Returned it.

Arc'teryx makes superb jackets the fit and finish is what you expect of a product in this price range. Tight stitching great technical fabrics and a well thought out design. It was light and seemed to be warm with great mobility one comes to expect from Arc'teryx. I never got a chance to were it outside. I opened the package from Backcountry and tried it on. Immediately I was unhappy with the stow away collar which seems like a NASCAR Hans Device. I packed it up and shipped it back to Backcountry so as not to jeopardize my return. I ended up purchasing The Arc'teryx Fission SV Insulated Jacket, now that is a great product. Warm and comfortable with traditional styling and technical fabrics. The Fission SV withstood temperatures in the -10F range with just a a t-shirt for 5 minutes without the feeling of cold. I tested it with a fleece base layer and discovered I could go for 10 minutes in -10F windy, 20 mph weather with not a concern. I would think this Jacket the Fission AR would preform similarly but possibly just not as robust a shell as the Fission SV. If traditional looks and neck bulk are a concern I recommend spending the extra money on the Fission SV if one can afford to.

the two stars should represent your IQ, not the jacket quality because you obviously did not understand what you were ordering
