Bad weather and the following bluebird day.

The Arc'teryx Men's Fissile Jacket handles freezing days at the ski resort and powdery splitboarding days in the backcountry. Gore-Tex gives this jacket reliable waterproof, breathable protection, and fully taped seams prevent snow from seeping through. Down Composite Mapping places light and lofty 750-fill down insulation and protective Coreloft synthetic insulation in specific areas.

Arc'teryx also added zippers under each arm for ventilated airflow, and the Slide 'n Loc powder skirt connects to compatible ski jackets for complete coverage. There are adjustments at the hood, hem, and cuffs for extra security, and the StormHood features helmet compatibility and a visor that keeps snow off your goggles. The Fissile also has pockets specifically designed for ski passes, valuables, and goggles.

    So far so good

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I've worn it several times on windy, cold nights and it has been great. The hood is very warm. It is long, which is nice, but I took one star away because it lacks a two way zipper, that would be a great feature.

As a resident of the epic Wasatch Mountains my main goal is to worry only about is the pow i have ahead of me. The last thing I want is to be thinking about being wet, cold,or too hot. This jacket has been the perfect quiver piece that I can grab for most days out here. The Fissile is made from the most durable long lasting Goretex 3 layer which make this incredible water/wind proof membrain. On the inside you get a plush feel of the best goose down, and selectively target areas using coreloft insulation. The reason behind this is they put that in area's we sweat when skiing/riding. This allows you those areas to remaine warm even after getting wet as synthetic down not only lofts better when wet, but dries faster. Another great part is with all this down this jacket still breaths extremely well similar to if you had any Arc'teryx technical shell, with a midlayer. It fits true to size, and has a nicer relaxed feel. Overall this is a high performance piece that is light, warm, and built to last. This jacket is amazing

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I know at first glance the price is a bit daunting but your not just investing in a jacket. Youre investing in the last winter jacket you'll ever need to buy.... EVER. Arcteryx has an amazing return policy that is for the most part anything and everything is covered up to and in some cases including fire damage. They will fix or replace anything for the life of the garmet. So where as most jackets are a one year or "limited" warranty and you end up having to buy new jackets every few years. It adds up to a lot more then this one time investment over a lifetime. The inside of this jacket is warm and feels amazing, the exterior is 3 layer gortex but it isn't crinkly and noisy like most gortex is. The hood is helmet compatible which is awesome.

So i'm looking between the Fissile and the Macai jacket. Considerate that i'm living in the east of Quebec with temperature around -20 celsius, will the Macai will be warm enough for freezy days? With one between these two, would be the best for snowboarding and backcoutry stuff? Thanks!

Leandre, the Fissile jacket is the warmest jacket within the Whiteline collection. It's longer in length and will offer more coverage. The Fissile has a center back length of 79.5cm and the Macai has a center back length of 76cm's. It might not sounds like much but every cm makes a difference!

Thank you Steph, very useful info! Both jacket are insulated with 750 fill goose down, and the Fissile is describe to had more insulation ( Coreloft (100g), Coreloft (40g) ) than the Macai ( 60g Coreloft Compact). Does it really make a difference? Also, i guess that both jacket had the same waterproof and breathability rating, is that right? thank a lot.

    leandre

The jackets are made with the exact same Gore tex membrane- so they are the same in terms of waterproof/breatheable.

The warmth between the 2 will be very minimal. The coreloft insulation is used in high moisture areas. There are some differences in fit you should look at. The Fissile Fits much larger and is indeed longer fitting. I wear a medium Macai and a small Fissile. Im 5'10" 165lbs. for reference. I really have not noticed one being warmer than the other. The fissile is indeed longer, but almost too long. The Macai has the removeable powder skirt and a small chest pocket (it is really small however).

You really cannot go wrong with either jacket
