Truck from seashore to salty desert and back (hopefully).

Once you finish building your camper and test its road-worthiness, you're ready to slip on the Arc'teryx Escapa Hat and leave home behind for the lure of the endless road trip. Thanks to the breathable fabric and mesh back, you can stay cool while driving through the desert; the laminated brim keeps the sun off your brow if you break down in the heart of the Mojave.

Here's what others have to say...

doesn't fit like a normal hat

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered the "Ultra Violet" color hat, because on the computer it was a nice looking blue, but in person it is ultra purple. I could of lived with it, but the fit was just not what I expected either.

Not perfect but my favorite hat now

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 7"
    Weight: 150 lbs

So my main caveat: I am a visor guy, and have grown so used to them that I have trouble with hats. They make my hair hurt. Maybe I have weird hair, I don't know. I have the equivalent of this hat in visor form and love it.
That said, this hat fits me well (like any nonadjustable hat, you should hope this fits; I think these run a smidge small but not uncomfortable for my medium head). The brim is pretty flexible, so you can look pretty catywumpus if it gets asymmetric. I love the mesh and the overall lightness of the hat; I generally use it for running and occasionally under a bike helmet and it works great to keep full sun off my noggin while still staying pretty cool. I no longer am wearing cotton hats or ridiculous trucker-style mesh hats (at least, I look ridiculous according to my wife and anyone with reasonable eyesight) now that I have this.

Summertime hat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great hat for summer activities. It fits easily under my climbing helmet and soaks up the sweat well. Cleans good and dries very quick. I love that the back is completely mesh and the brim is short. Another great product from a great company.

Good Hat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wore this for a good majority of the JMT. Dries fast and isn't tight on the head.
I also take this out climbing and the bill doesn't get in the way when you're pulling in close to the wall.

Does the bill of the hat flip up while...

Does the bill of the hat flip up while riding a bike in the wind? Anyone know?

it's holds it's shape but if you're bombing a hill or pushing for a red light--the it flip up a bit

I work as a lifeguard at the oceanfront. From thrashing around in the salt water on a quick dip to drying out in the stand above the sand, this is the best hat I've ever worn. I've guarded for a decade now and I've had some great gear to use in my daily activities. This hat doesn't have the annoying little button on top like most hats. It also doesn't have a clip or velcro strap in the rear. You just slap that puppy on your dome and your good to go!! This hat will keep you from getting kissed by the sun too much but also has the breath ability of a hammock. Thanks for making the DOPEST hat EVER!!!

Does what it says and more

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this hat mainly for running in the heat and wanted something breathable. The first race I used it at the weather changed from good to really bad in a few hours. With rain, hail, snow, and 30 mile an hour winds the brim kept my face protected and the hat controlled the temps.

Perfect fit.

This hat is ultra lightweight and pack able. I have a big head and this hat fits perfectly. It sits deep enough to stay in place. Also the mesh backing is great for 100+ degree days.

good hat, not for me

This is a killer hat for those looking to have a pack-able lightweight option that you can throw in your pack. the fit is a little odd on my head and so I returned the product. I have a fairly small noggin and usually wear a S/M in flex-fit hats and this S/M was a little big.

Great idea for a hat!

I live in the humid-ass South and in the summer I am constantly sweating; this includes my head and hair (ewww!) I saw this hat in a store a tried it on, even though i thought it would look stupid. This hat looks great! I mean, it looks normal and not like a silly mesh hat. It is both functional - i get some breathability during the sweaty summers and it actually doesn't look dorky. It even fits comfortably considering I have dreadlocks (a ton of hair)! In terms of summer hats, I'd have to say it's perfect.

Very Dissapointed

After seeing the hat online I was going to buy two but after I bought it and physically saw it I was very dissatisfied. The material is nice but the brim is straight and not moldable, and the fit was terrible. Fortunately I got an accelero hat, which is great and returned the escapa.

Quick and Easy

I like this hat as a quick and easy backup when its gonna be super hot. It crumples down really small (even the brim is "crumplable"). The seams inside the hat are taped to prevent rubbing. It doesn't fit like a baseball hat as the "head pocket" is rather small, think a running style of hat... I have a large head and the L/XL fits snug and stays put.
