The ability of this soft yarn to stay warm when it is cool outside and cool when it heats up gives the Emissary its amazing latitude. Sheep have been wearing it for years and they live outside! Naturally itch free and microbial resistant Merino wool is meant to secretly replace cotton in active clothing. This is a great combination: 1) Arc'teryx seems to be THE gear manufacturer to beat; 2) Synthetics simply can't stand up to Mother Nature's highly evolved Merino wonder. The result of this happy marriage is an incredible technical base layer that performs like nothing else. Superior wicking, temperature management (you have to try it to believe it), comfort, and naturally antimicrobial properties (it doesn't stink like synthetics) all come together to create, in my humble opinion, the perfect garment. This shirt feels light and seems best suited to insulation duty, as minimal stitching and a raglan cut lend to comfort beneath layers and/or a pack rather than rugged use as outerwear. Arc'teryx and Merino seem to be identical in this regard: Once you try them, there's no going back!
