Description

For a high-tech, high-comfort ski day.

When you have deep pow and face shots lined up in your sights, pull on the Arc'teryx Men's Crossbow Jacket. The weather-whipping trifecta of durable nylon on the outside, Gore-Tex laminate in the middle, and a soft polyester fleece lining keeps you dry and warm whether you're catching a ride to the top or barreling down open bowls. Guaranteed waterproof and guaranteed breathable fabric guarantees you'll have a great time whether you're ripping it in sunshine or having your tracks erased by a blizzard.

Soft and supple, Gore-Tex 3L lo-loft Soft Shell stays silent, even when spoken to. The low-profile fleece backer adds a kiss of warmth when you know you won't be working hard to get the good stuff. On the off chance you boot-pack to a secret stash off the main lift, Gore-Tex tech takes your sweat away without letting cold air chill you out long before apres-ski bevvies. When you're sitting with the lifties to work on your goggle lines, open up the underarm vents for some fresh air.

Hook-and-loop straps are bad on tennis shoes and your pants, but beautiful on your ski jacket. Adjust the cuffs with hook-and-loop closures to fit over or under your paw protection. The helmet-compatible hood adjusts so you can keep a low profile. The powder skirt has the Slide n' Lock attachment, so with the right pant, you may create a singular piece of winter-weather protection. Two pack-friendly pockets adorn the front, just in case you're planning a backcountry ski tour.

Great Shell for Skiing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 11"
    Weight: 178 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

I was able to pickup a Medium Crossbow in Black during a recent sale on Backcountry.com. I ordered primarily for an upcoming ski trip to Colorado. I've now spent the past week skiing in it.

The jacket, as noted in the specs, is Gore-Tex 3L soft shell with a light polyester fleece lining. It is relatively quiet and crinkle free when wearing it.

For February skiing, I paired this shell with a merino base or midlayer and a Gore-tex Arcteryx bib pant. The combo worked great. On colder days I went with a 320 Icebreaker midlayer and a wicking tshirt as a base. On warmer days I went with a Howie's merino base or a 260 Icebreaker merino base. This worked great and kept me warm on the lifts but not overheating on the slopes.

I had a pair of Arcteryx Gore-tex gloves that are long and can be pulled over the jacket cuffs. This worked well with the Crossbow. I simply kept the velcro wrist cuffs done up tight and then easily pulled by gloves over.

The powerbelt is nice and snug on the Crossbow and kept snow out.

The hood will fit over a helmet but is smaller and doesn't extend as much forward as some other hoods on Arcteryx jackets. I didn't need the hood much on this trip, but if you like a really big hood, you might want to look at a different model. This was the only reason I docked one star.

I'm 5'11", about 178lbs, and I felt the Medium fit me perfectly. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this Gore-tex jacket.

Awesome Soft Shell Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 11"
    Weight: 230 lbs
    Size Purchased: XL

Can't go wrong with an Arc'teryx jacket for the backcountry, whether your skiing or boarding or out for a hike. This jacket is perfect for the west coast winters and spring conditions. Jacket runs a little big but offers plenty of room to add mid layers for colder conditions.

I agree with previous post, my only complaints would be no chest pocket but this jacket does offer a small forearm pocket perfect to store your lift pass. The sleeves are a little longer than most but not too bad. I'm 5'11 and about 230 lbs and the XL fits great through the shoulders and mid section, just a little long in the sleeves.

Overall best jacket I've owned!

Excellent cold weather shell

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The relaxed fit of this jacket works very well with a lightweight down or synthetic fill mid layer and the soft-shell construction makes it much more comfortable when worn over a t-shirt than a traditional hard shell.

My gripes? I prefer storm hoods due to their superior weather protection when skiing in bitter cold temps and could use an exterior chest pocket. Otherwise, it's an excellent all around shell.

Previous version was better.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

These jackets run big. At 5'10" and 165lbs i wear the small. They are cut long in the torso and also have long arms (a bonus I may add for us people with monkey arms)
Arcteryx redisgned the crossbow for F13 and it was a disappointment. The hood now has the collar with a drop hood (attached at the collar). This makes it difficult to wear any mid layer that may have a hood. The new version has a weird cut. Whenever i store gear in the pockets it seems to stick out at the bottom by the seam and looks like Ive got a ponch hanging over my pants. The previous version did not have this lower seam and the pockets were slightly higher (and better for packs). Both versions use the mix of Lo Loft gore tex and Hi loft in specific areas. I would have liked to see an all high loft version as well as use the watertight Vislon front zipper (like the sabre).
For less money you can get the sabre with a better hood, better outer fabric and better hood.

Couldn't get one to fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

I'm 5'9" and 155lbs, the medium was large and baggy, the small was a better fit but arms too long, as in, only my fingertips were sticking out. Unfort had to return them both.
