it fits like a yamaka, serioulsy unless you have a tiny head like pea sized brain tiny dont get it. It would work perfect for your girlfriend though. I looved the beanie except for the size. TRUST ME. I woud return it if it didnt cost me 8 bucks for shipping

This beanie is great for a smaller head, not for extra larges like my big bean. If you size right and don't mind the awkward label placement (I hate labels so perhaps my judgement is tainted), this is nicely made, comfortable and better looking than a shower cap when that perm ain't working my friend.

The size of the beanie is not that small, still a lil large for my head. (about a 6 and 3/4 in pro fit baseball hats), but great beanie for warmer weather. Label is in an awkward spot as stated in the other review. Overall though, I enjoy the beanie and wear it on a nearly daily basis.
