I really want to be able to give this hat 5 stars, but I just can't and it's not even because it's a bad hat. In fact I wear this hat every single day in the winter and fall.
I'm not giving this product 5 stars because of the production of this hat. I initially bought the squid ink version of the hat in December 2011 and it has served well me to this day (even though my dog has chewed off all 3 tassles). It fit perfect right from the get go, the fleece was sewn into the hat nicely and the seam in the back was virtually non-existent when wearing the hat.
I thought I would purchase another one in 2012 and I purchased the brown one. When it arrived I put it on and was extremely disappointed. It fit much tighter than the first hat I purchased. I noticed the front of the hat would roll up exposing the black fleece underneath when wearing the hat. Also the fleece was sewn into the hat in a "bunched up" manner. I also noticed a small hole on the top of the hat.
I sent an email to Arc'teryx letting them know about my issues with my new purchase and offered to include pictures for verification, but to my disappointment I never heard back.
All-in-all this is a fantastic hat if you get a quality produced verion. If you don?t then I'm sorry. It will be uncomfortable and won't look as cool as you would have liked.
Maybe the one I received was just that happened to slip by quality control analyst.
Possibly not durable.

This hat has a very open crown, which makes it feel like the top rope is stretching the knit around the crown. You can see visible gaps in the knit around that top rope. The tassels on the end of each of the three ropes have twisted into clumps after just a few trips. Overall, I have thicker, warmer, more comfortable, and more durable looking hats at a third of the price.

It's very nice. Just wish the fleece covered entire inside. But I suppose this ain't a mall-cruiser, but a proper outdoor athletic piece.
Love it!

Really pretty colors (squid ink) and nice quality. I only wish the fleece lining covered the whole interior rather than just the earflaps and around the headband area. One other MINOR quibble - the edge of the hat sort of rolls up instead of laying flat across your forehead. Or the one I got did anyway - maybe not all do.
All in all very cute and good fit - but one star off for the rolling forehead.

Super Duper Sweet Lid...Arcteryx has some of the best quality clothing on the outfitting market...albeit a tad too expensive most of the time. Otherwise a great cap...very warm and wicked stylish.

If you have a small head, it should fit right away - i have a fairly large head, size 58 (cm) and it is, as all arc'teryx hats, VERY tight on me :)

I've been wanting this hat forever and finally 1 came in stock in the coffee bean color. I've literally been wearing it since I got it. I walk about 2 miles a day going to class and, in PA, it's really cold. The fleece in the ear flaps and around the forehead keep me toasty. The hat looks hand made and is very good quality. Like another owner has said, it stretches to fit. Matches everything and will have it for a long time to come.
WARM AND CONFY!!

Ok, I washed it already and it did NOT Shrink (must wash in cold water and air dry) the interior of the ear flaps have a soft lining added so that the wool is not tickling your ears which I think is a great idea. after being washed the wool kept its original form. I was afraid it was not going to fit me cause I have a big head (being a girl) but it streched nicely and still kept me very warm. Chicago is very cold and windy during winter and this hat has kept me warm. Great hat!

Is the "coffee bean" color gray as in the picture, or brown as the name implies?

The Coffee Bean color on the Arc'teryx Contrail is closer to a brown, sort of Coffee bean-like.
