Description

The Arc'teryx C40 Chalk Bag—unlike any other.

Instead of making another basic chalk bag like everyone else, Arc'teryx used Schoeller dynamic softshell fabric to give the C40 a unique look and feel. This small-medium-size Arc'teryx chalk bag is just right for bouldering or sport climbing. The C40 Chalk Bag's tapered top allows you to get a quick dab of chalk when you're cruxing on your project. *Only available for US shipment.

Here's what others have to say...

small bag

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

but well built. Ended up passing it off to the wife, since it is too small for me. Great materials and holds up well. Shes been running it for a year or so and has beat it up and its still going strong.

Bag size

Bag size

Here's also a photo of the size of the chalk bag with regard to my hand size, and how it lays on the body. My hands are 6.5 in. by 4.5 in. across, and the bag is perfect for me.

Excellent Chalk Bag

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Size reference: Female--my hands are 6.5 inches long from wrist to tip of middle finger; about 4.5 inches across.

USE, FIT, & PROS:

I love this chalk bag. I've had it for about a year now, and I have no major complaints. My hands fit nicely in the bag, and I have a size medium. (You should compare the depth/width of the bag to your own hand size to be sure it will fit nicely.) I love this bag especially on days I do laps (that's what I'm doing in the video), when I prefer something light that doesn't weigh me down (yes, some chalk bags can weigh you down a little). It's very efficient. I love the color and the drawcord doesn't get stuck as often as other chalk bags I've used (despite the continual presence of chalk on the cord).

When choosing a bag, I think the things to look for are a sturdy ring at the top that keeps the bag wide open so it doesn't flop closed--the components involved in keeping this bag put are nice and firm (see the video: even when I twist and turn it stays in just about the same place).

Other things to look for are how much room you want for your loose chalk/ball--some people like a bigger bag so they don't have to replace the chalk as often. For me, I replace my chalk every month or so (I climb 3-4 days a week) and the size of this bag is just fine (I would call myself a moderate chalk-user). Another thing to look for is the quality of the belt; this one is great and the buckle looks & feels sturdy. The inside of the bag is nice and soft, and I've never had chalk explode out of the bag when I cinch it shut. It also has a loop for a brush, which I've never had to use, even though I do use it for bouldering as well. I'm not too picky!

CONS:

If you're looking to do mostly bouldering, you might want to think about getting a chalk bucket instead. This isn't necessarily a downside to this chalkbag, but if you want something that will do double duty for bouldering and sport/trad climbing, then you might want to find something a tad bigger.

Too Small for My Hands

I purchased this for myself but ended up giving it to my wife as my hands were too large. She has no complaints and is very happy the bag.

sweet!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love this chalk bag. The strap on the bag makes it super convenient and easy to use.

Holds chalk

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The construction is impressive, as expected from Arc'teryx, but other than that it is a chalk bag. It holds enough chalk and fits my small hands perfectly, but it will not close with a 'full' chalk ball in it. After some use, with the ball smaller, it closed perfectly and doesnt leak chalk. Additionally, it sits really well on the butt, and the stiff brim really helps when you're nervously throwin your hands into it. If I didnt get it on sale ($25), it wouldnt be worth the money though.

just the right amount of chalk

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So if you have larger hands I probably would not recommend this bag. However since I have tiny hands this bag is perfect. It fits my chalk sock and a little bit of loose chalk at the bottom! It closes up neatly and packs away really small after the day is done. The reinforced mouth is nice so you can access the chalk with ease and the strap is easy to adjust.

Arc'teryx chalkbag

The best thing about this bag is the tapered opening lined with nylon which makes entry and exit very smooth. The plastic rim stays open and hasn't deformed much even when thrown in a pack. In a pack it doesn't spill or even "puff" chalk out because it closes up super tight. The material is built to last.

Arc'teryx is notorious for having products that I would never buy at full price (or on sale most of the time) because they are just too expensive for what you get but their chalk bags are an exception to that rule.

Great small bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have used this bag once now and love it. If a large bag is a must for your then do not get this bag, I have it filled with loose chalk and it is just big enough for me (medium sized hands). Materials seem durable like most Arcteryx gear. I appreciate the smaller size because it takes up less room on the harness.

love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am a totally in love with this chalk bag. Yes its just a bag that holds chalk. Yes you can find something cheaper. But I put this one on and just had to have it. I love the hard ring around the top edge, keeps the bag open and no fumbling around. The draw string closes so tight no chalk gets out onto your other things. I do have small childlike hands, but I chose this over the smaller size so I could get my entire hand in there with room to spare (I wear size 6 in gloves). The outer fabric is durable and beautiful. If you're looking for a nice bag thats comfortable and clean, get this one. You won't be disappointed.

Swag bag

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Hard to say one chalk bag is much better than another, as long as they hold chalk, but I have had zero problems with this one. The outer shell is a nice material, soft and flexible, the inside is soft and fleece lined, the drawstring closes up all the way on mine, no chalk gets out. I have small hands (I wear a size S glove), and they fit fine in the bag, no complaints at all about the size. The citronelle color is nice. If the little stuff makes a difference to you in your gear, its worth the extra cost, if not, I wouldnt bother, a chalk bag holds chalk.

Good Product, Not for Me...

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

In terms of build quality and functionality of the chalk bag, I'd give it a 5 star. I personally like having the belt, so no need for me to cut it to remove. Honestly though, I don't understand why cutting the end piece off is anything for people to be hesitant about... You could always just feed it right back through the plastic clip piece if you wanted the belt on there again. The hard plastic ring to keep the bag open is really nice, makes getting your hand on some chalk a little less fussy than a limp bag...

As others have, though, my hands are too big to quickly get my hand in there when I'm in a sketchy position. For reference, my hand is 4 inches wide at the last thumb knuckle,7.75 inches long from base of palm to middle fingertip. Also, a large chalk sock will pretty much take up the entire volume of this bag when cinched shut... I am going to give my girlfriend this bag and upgrade myself to the C80.

drawstring broke

Pretty good chalk bag, I've had it for over 2 years now. It works well and does what it needs to but recently the string broke on the bag and chalk went everywhere in my climbing bag. Still for about $30 I'm not going to complain.

too small

this chalk bag seemed to have a solid construction however it was really small it would hardly hold the chalk ball so I got a Petzl Koda instead and that bag is nice and big

Tough to Close

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the material of this bag and the size. Colors are bright and the belt works great. The pull cord is a little weak and it is hard to get the bag to close all the way, you really have to crank on it if you don't want chalk all over in your gear bag.

Nice bag for big hands

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love the solid top ring to keep the bag nice and open... and the cinch pulls down nice and tight so I don't have chalk all over the inside of my backpack.

I prefer this bag over my Prana chalk bag because the Dead Bird bag fits my large hands well.

Great Feel!

Okay, I've had this chalk bag for a few months now, and I have really enjoyed it. This chalk bag fits my hands perfectly, but remember that I'm only fourteen years old. It looks nice on the outside, and on the inside it feels really nice. All of the Black Diamond and Organic chalk bags that I've used have a really weird feeling on the inside. On those, it feels like a wool blanket on the inside. But with this one, it has none of that and fells very smooth on the inside of it. The belt is very nice and fits even around my tiny waist. The only complaint that I have is that clipping it to your haul loop with a non-locker is a little awkward, but that doesn't affect me because I don't do that. I really think this is a great purchase if you're going to get serious about climbing like I have.

OK

It's too small for my liking and I have tiny hands. So i turned into my gym bag. It's a nice looking bag though.
