Blade 30

Excellent bag. I find myself going back to this for all of my international trips. I can store all essential items needed in the event I am forced to check a bag. It also proves to be my new weekend getaway options for those last minute road trips.

    Great Pack

I use this for business travel. Pack has enough room for short trips and can fit under the seat or in the overhead storage in regional jets. The portion of the pack that holds the computer is easily accessible for security screening. The front pocket provides space for pens note pads etc. Because its a back pack its easier to scramble through large airports (DIA, SLC) when rushing to make connections. And it has a side strap which allows you to carry it sideways so it looks more like a briefcase when headed into meetings.

      Very Good Compromise Backpack

Decided to go a little more upscale with my work backpack. Dealing with more upper level customer management--so thought it was time to slightly improve my image and looking for something that could double as a simple and quick weekend bag. Since I am gypsy and live out of my suitcase everything needs to have at least double duty. So after reviewing various options this seemed to be the best.

Have had it for over one year (China, Mexico, Hong Kong, and counting) and it has held up. This is as expected because the quality was first class and very functional. As strictly a backpack it is not very good--but looking for a work/short trip backpack for which it excels at. The only thing that I wish it had (-1 star) would be a sternum strap that make it just a little more functional.

In summary--very pleased with the quality, features, and design of the backpack.

I was thinking of getting this bag for a friend for a bday gift(!) as a work / backpack / travel bag; big enough for a laptop and all the usual 'stuff' we all like to carry around! The query - or hesitation - I have is my friend really likes the WAIST STRAP that his current backpack has... so YIKES! ...guess the question is: does this bag feel comfy without needing the extra waist strap when its well quite full of stuff...? ! (and/ if I were to go ahead and make the purchase is it possible for him to return / exchange if not suitable...?)

sorry rather a convoluted question!!! :)

Waist straps are designed more to hold the load tight against your body and to keep it from flopping around as you move. It is more of a personal preference than anything else though. Alternatively, holding on to the base of the shoulder straps give you roughly the same results. If he likes the waist belt on his current pack, he obviously prefers that method. Get this, let him use it to see if he likes it. If not, he can return it without any problems for just short of forever. Backcountry has the best and easiest return policy/guarantee of any retailer I've ever dealt with, bar none.

This may be overkill but for the same price you can pick up the QUINTIC 28 pack that has tons of pockets and a waist strap. Yeah I realize its designed for snowsports but I have been taking mine everywhere. Weeklong trip out west, day trips, Bring it to the gym/work, and even its intended reason skiing. Its so darn handy with pockets that fit a lot of different items. Its single handedly replaced my SILO 40 and M20 pack (So I sold them).

^ thanks to Phil & Paul for responding I've taken a punt on this one and it's ordered!! :)))

(on a side note I love the look of the Quintic 28L bag., that might be one for me maybe, haha! Though I fear it's a tad ***too good*** a bag for a daily commute, I wonder if it could take the usage/punishment!!) :-p anyhoo again thanks!!!! :D

          Hi Patty,

I travel all over both domestically and internationally and have had no problems putting this bag under the seat on any jet. MD80, 717, 737, A319, A320 ... including the big boys on long hauls - no problem. I have had a few challenges on some small commuter turboprop's (ATR's, etc) for short trips but these are the planes that barely fit your feet under the seat.

Anything under nearly all normal travel conditions will work fine.

It's a great bag for biz travel.
