Lightweight yet durable, the Women's Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket is a versatile, must-have hardshell for any weight-conscious outdoor athlete who's hard on her gear. Since the Beta AR weighs a paltry 14 ounces (it's even a few ounces lighter than last year's model), you won't hesitate to stuff it in your pack for any tour, alpine climb, inbounds ski day, backpack, or mountaineering venture. And Gore-Tex's ultra-tough Pro Shell 3L fabric sheds even the heaviest rainstorms and wettest snowstorms. With helpful extras like a helmet-compatible drop hood, WaterTight zippers, a laminated windflap, and drawcord hem, Mother Nature doesn't stand a chance at soaking you. Arc'teryx made the chest pockets harness-compatible and added articulated arms and underarm vents to bolster the Beta AR Jacket's versatility even more.
Bottom Line: A fine-crafted hardshell to weather any storm, year-round.
Is there a difference between the Beta AR and the LT? I'm trying to decide between Beta LT, AR or the Theta SL. I'll be using the jacket for hiking/outdoor activities so a really short jacket would make life a bit difficult. Thanks!
Knowing the abbreviations Arc'Teryx uses is very helpful, as well. Generally speaking, the LTs and SLs are lighter duty jackets, like Paul said. The MX, SV and ARs are heavier fabric and a bit more durable.
AR = All Round SL = Super Light SV = SeVere weather MX = MiXed weather LT = LighT weight SK = Ski Touring
Beta's are the shortest cut jackets in the arc Ascent lineup, whereas the Thetas are the longest. As for the differences between the Beta AR and LT- The face fabrics are different (LT like its name suggests uses a lighter or thinner denier Nylon) as well as the LT is a bit more streamlined in its features. Sounds like you should pick up a Theta (AR or the SL). good luck
The Theta (AR and SL) are the longest Arc'teryx jackets. Theta AR uses GoreTex Proshell throughout, the SL uses Proshell in shoulders and Paclight in the torso. SL is a bit trimmer fit in the torso with a roll away hood.
