Cold days mean colder nights. Stand on the balcony with your wineglass in hand, and watch frozen air crystals shimmer in the fading light of day or the first rays of morning light while wearing the Arc'teryx Women's Atom SV Hooded Insulated Jacket. If you're snowshoeing under a full moon in late January, the Atom SV performs admirably as a ultra-warm layer under your toughest shell. Weighing less than one pound and stuffable into its own sleeve, the Atom SV insulated hoody comes along on any high-mountain backpacking or climbing trip where you can use a heat boost.

Constructed from 30D mechanical stretch ripstop nylon, the Atom AV is breathable and flexible. Tricot panels at the pits and stretch cuffs enhance air exchange and the jacket's flexibility. Chase your children across endless expanses of snow without worrying about overheating or ripping this jacket. The insulated hood offers another layer of protection against the cold, and can be adjusted using only one hand. The Atom SV resists the demands of a light drizzle, thanks to the DWR finish. Articulated elbows and gusseted underarms provide freedom of movement for mid-winter javelin practice.

Coreloft 100 is polyester insulation gone technically warm. Siliconized polyester yarn of varying weights come together to create a highly-compressible, thermally-efficient layer of insulation. Jam the entire jacket into a single sleeve for packing economy, and then watch the jacket puff back up to size when you shake it out. On it's own, the Atom SV keeps you warm on frigid nights around a campfire or when you're digging a snow cave at base camp. Under a shell, the Atom SV provides super-warm layering when the forecast calls for plunging temperatures, nuking snow, and frostbite-causing wind.

I advise everyone.

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

More I do not want to wear any other jacket. It is very comfortable, warm, light, not afraid of the wind. Pockets heated by body heat and they are always warm. Hood-a wonderful, warm and comfortable. You can go hatless and use only the hood. I bought the color Blackberry and I love it. I bought it without the discount and do not regret about expended dollars.

Who designs these things?

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

This jacket is great ... until you try to use the hood. When you put on the hood, the plastic cinches are on the inside and rub against your cheeks. But wait; it gets better! When you actually tighten the hood, the excess loops can either stay inside and chafe against your cheeks or you can pull them up out of the hood and they stick straight up into your nostrils. Really? For a cheap jacket that's ridiculous but for an expensive one it's pathetic. And now I have to pay for the return????

Lightweight and warm

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

Absolutely amazing jacket. Got it on sale about a month ago and was shocked (even though I tried to prepare) at how thin it was but the moment I took it outside I knew thin did not mean it wasn't warm! Truly awesome to have that much warmth without the poof factor.

Coreloft is amazing stuff! Jacket breathes well and is reasonably wind and water resistant.

I love that arc'teryx designs it to fit under a jacket of the same size. This means not having to tinker around as much with sizes.

I love the colors it comes in but ended up with black because it was on sale. Black is nice because even though it's great in the woods, you can also wear it out and look nice (at least by my standards).

All in all a great jacket!

Don't know what I did before this Jacket

  • Fit:True to size

I can't begin to explain how much I love this jacket! It's unbelievably lightweight and incredibly warm! I have been wearing this as a stand-alone jacket this fall & then most recently wore it underneath a shell while snowboarding in 0 degree weather & it worked perfectly!

This jacket looks beautiful as well & doesn't look like a super technical piece. I have the black & it looks amazing. I am 5'7", 135 lbs & wear a size medium.

(1) My measurements are all over the place (XS, S, M) - is there one key measurement to base the sizing on(I can't try one on in-store)

(2) Do I need to upsize to cater for layering underneath or is the sizing chart taking that into account already?

Best Answer

People throw around weight and height a lot on when looking at jackets but really these are not the best indicators of how a jacket will fit and can potentially be misleading. The two best measurements are sleeve length and chest. This may not create the perfect fit for everyone but they are by far the two best indicators, with chest size being the most important of all.

As for layering, the Arc'Teryx Atom SV is part of Arc's athletic fit line, so this jacket will be more trim than some others you have likely worn, but I don't believe there will be any need to go up a full size for layering as you might with their trim fit. If you are still unsure after taking these two measurements (chest and arm length), please chat or call in to talk to one of our customer service Gearheads, and we will be happy to help you match your measurements to the appropriate size for this jacket.
