Where will you be on the wall when the storm comes?

The Arc'teryx Women's Alpha SL Jacket might end up being your most important piece of gear on your climbing trips. Gore-Tex gives jacket guaranteed waterproof breathable protection while Paclite technology lets you stuff the Alpha Super Light into its included stuff sack for compact travel whether you're climbing or flying.

Arc'teryx designed the Alpha SL with an e3D design that provides a full range of motion despite its trim fit. This jacket also features WaterTight zippers for extra waterproof protection, two-piece Hemlock inserts so the jacket won't slip once it's under your harness, and a zippered chest pocket for your headlamp.

    Great shell, lacking details

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this as a spring snowboarding coat, also to replace my now 6yo REI rain shell. It's super light-weight, and it fits like a dream. It is slightly longer in the back, which is great for boarding. The sleeves, the sleeves are long!!! Beautifully comfortably long. I haven't tried it in a downpour, so can't comment on the Goretex yet.
I would give this 5 stars, but its missing a few key details IMO. No side pockets. There is 1 chest pocket, but there is no internal hole for a headphone jack. Pockets are everything! Also no armpit vents -- I get this is a raincoat first and layering shell second, but it would be nice. Really well made coat, but lacking some pockets.

Thanks for review Leah. The Alpha SL is definitely barebones in features (mainly pockets) which is how Arc'teryx keeps it so light at 9.3 oz. Great 4-season shell to keep in your pack at all times.

Ice climbing in the Alpha SL

I demoed this jacket at the Bozeman Ice Fest this year and really liked it! When the ice started raining on me, I stayed nice and dry underneath this shell and also didn't get too hot while climbing. Plus, lets be real... its a great color.

Hi there, does it have only one chest pocket? And does it have pit zips (under arm ventilations) ? Ive notice that those are included in review videos but there is not such information on your website. i.e.

The Alpha SL is a lightweight/packable storm shell. It does not have pit zips as Gore-Tex Paclite is extremely breathable. It only has one chest pocket.

If you're looking for a comparable jacket with pit zips and more pockets, check out the Beta LT Hybrid.
