Much more breathable than a full hardshell, the Arc'teryx Women's Alpha Comp Hoody handles cold fronts or powder face shots without flinching. The fully featured Storm Hood lets you wear a mountaineering helmet or downhill dome without restricting vision or movement. Gusseted underarms and Durastretch fabric make swinging an ice axe or stretching for the next pole plant easy and unencumbered. The Alpha Comp Hoody's hip-length, drop-back design gives full protection while not interfering with your harness or backpack. This clever hybrid design uses softshell construction for breathability, and hardshell panels where waterproofing is key. The result is a jacket with a broad comfort range that is better in bad weather than a full softshell. *Available for US shipment only.
Bottom Line: Get the most out of hardshell and softshell materials with the Arc'teryx Women's Alpha Comp Hoody,
The Jacket is great but the sizing is off - medium which I normally wear was way too big through the body and the small which did fit through the body was too tight through the shoulders. I had to return both.
I love this jacket! Function is technically sound. Keeps out wind and rain but lets you breathe. I did get too warm with a full wind-resistant fleece underneath and too cold with just a baselayer. Wish it had just a hint of liner. Just have to find the right under layer. Fits well, looks great! Cuff and zippers easy even with gloves on. I use it for cross country runs and skiing, as well as downhill. Performs wherever I take it.
This depends on the jacket model and your height / torso length. I am 5'6 with a little shorter torso than average, and Arc'teryx jackets advertised as hip length do fall just below the top of my hips. Arc'teryx also makes waist length jackets which are too short for me if I am wearing them as my outer layer. They are okay as layering pieces, but I generally prefer a little longer jacket during active pursuits. Arc'teryx notes the length of their jackets (in the general terms of waist / hip / below hip), and if that information is not expressly listed on the backcountry site, you can find it on the manufacturer's website.

I wear a size 6-8 and the small fits perfectly. I love the way this jacket looks, and it keeps all the wind/rain out. Can't wait to take it skiing in a couple weeks!
This is my first Arc'teryx product, and I'm already sold. I'm petite (5'3") and usually outerwear swallows me up. This jacket is trim and tailored - very flattering. I wore this all weekend over t-shirts and sweaters, and it kept me warm, dry, and comfortable in temps between 55 and dry and 35 and rainy.
I have the men's version of this jacket. I use it for mountaineering, ski touring and skiing. The Alpha Comp is really light weight yet very breathable (soft shell). For this reason, it's good in quite a range of temperatures (I usually wear the Mountain Hardwear Transition Zip Tee underneath). This is one of the nicest jackets I've ever owned.
