Streamlined and burly.
Just because it's cold doesn't mean climbing season's over--just ask the Arc'teryx Alpha AR Women's Pant. It's most at home when things get vertical and cold, with an ergonomic e3D cut and a three-layer Gore-Tex Pro waterproof and breathable membrane with 155D nylon reinforcements in high-wear areas. Keprotec reinforcements at the instep prevent crampons and rocks from tearing up your pants, while the low-profile waistbelt and removable suspenders let you worry about more important things than keeping your pants up--hard ice climbs require your full focus, after all. The Alpha's been hooked with long WaterTight side zips that ventilate and let you take them off over your footwear, and a removable internal LegWrap and ankle drawcord that helps to eliminate crampon snag.

These pants are amazing... Honestly amazing. The best shell out there (at least that I have found to date). I am blown away at the detail, care, and thought that went into these pants. They fit quite well and feel great. I am 5'4" and 125lbs and bought a size small and was originally worried when I first tried them on because they are a little baggy in the lower legs due to width and length. I was concerned that it might cause some snagging on crampons. Due to the awesome nature of these pants and Arcteryx thinking of everything, here is why that is not an issue:
⢠On the inside of the pant is a Velcro strap just at the knee that pulls the inside of the pant in toward your knee. This takes extra fabric to the outside of the leg, to keep all the extra fabric out of the way for mountaineering
⢠That internal knee strap can be released to have enough room for ski boots. Easily done without having to remove the pant or shoes because of the ¾ zip sides.
⢠The base of the pant can synch down around your ankles to prevent snow from getting in, acting as a gaiter, great for glacier travel, and yet another preventative measure to keep from snagging your crampons on the pants.
⢠The inside of the pant legs are reinforced as well to prevent snagging.
⢠The suspenders are removable
⢠The pants sit comfortably on your waist rather than your hips (another great feature for keeping snow out, and a more comfortable natural fit)
⢠Potential for crampon snagging, if proper care is not taken (as stated above)
⢠They are long and wide in the leg; Factor in your mountaineering or ski boots when thinking of sizing. (I have the La Sportiva Nepal EVO GTX Mountaineering Boot - Women's which work great, height wise)
⢠They have enough space for thick layering.
⢠XS would have given me enough room for some thermals, but with the Smalls I would be able to fit a pair of down pants underneath for really cold days.
⢠Even with the loose fit it has a flattering touch to hug the curves just right so you can climb in style.
Do yourself a favor, if you want to get a good pair of mountaineering/ski/ice climbing pants get these, you will not be disappointed.
