    Disappointing design and durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

The pants a nice weight, venting is very good and fit is pretty good with small exception (see below). They are mostly good for climbing due to fit and design. I have ice climbed, hiked and skid in them. I have about 25 day on them and in that a few long trips wearing them for 5-7 day straight. In transit, they wear kind of funny, sort of gunslinger cowboy like with the articulated knees but once out in the wild they move quite well with you.

There are a few improvements that would make them better for what they are:

    - a second front pocket, 1 is nice two would be better

    - The back is a little low cut. When climbing or reaching or bending over the pants slide down too much opening up my back.

    - when taking in at the belt (which I think is really nice idea) the belt slips up an gets me in the stomach. They are better warn with a harness then without.

    Significant complaints

    - Arcteryx shows in their sales propaganda that these pants can be worn with AT boots, Dynafit to be exact. While you can wear them with ski boots, you won't be putting them in walk mode as the cuff it too narrow. You will need to unzip the pants to be in full walk mode. I find it hard to believe anyone ski'd with these pants in testing, it's like they had a pair ski boots hanging out for the photo shoot.

    - Durability - They have been back to Arcteryx for repair once and really should go back again. After 2 days of use they delaminated, which I suspect was caused by the velco from a ski boot which they advertise with the pants. Their customer service was really nice and friendly to deal with just the repair was slow (took 3 months). The repair was free which for ware/tare usually isn't but really.... to use the pants as advertised is expected. They are delaming a second time now and a zipper pull has come off....

For an Arcteryx products I would expect a more thought out product and less issues.

    Disappointing design and durability

    Rainier

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Small

Fit: long and loose to accommodate layers. I'm 5'6 and would have preferred these in a short fit. I will have them modified at RainyPass.

Breath ability: submitted Rainier on 6/26. It was HOT. I wore these with shorts underneath for most the trip. Vented great with side zips and didn't mind the cover in 80+ heat

Durability: somehow tore a hole near my harness. I'm confident no ice tools or sharps caused the tear. Looks like a stress rip. For $600 I'd expect more. Moreover, Backcountry won't replace Arcteryx gear. I'm currently dealing with the manufacture directly. Not excited.

Features and Value: Meh... Hard to say. No much available that is comparable to these pants with respect to function. The only improvements would be a full side zipper and the length. I've never heard of anyone having the durability issue before. Maybe I have a defective pair? We'll see what arcteryx does.

Backcountry: disappointed. I spend enough that I'd appreciate you standing behind the items you sell. your team is polite, but that won't save me the additional $150 to have them repaired if I'm found to be in the wrong.
