Aqua-Bound Sting Ray 2-Pce Carbon Paddle
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I LOVE this paddle!! It is very light and versatile with the ability to offset for feathering. In paddling a lake, I found it to be strong and reliable during braces and even paddling up to speed in a 17' Seaward Navigator. For the price, this paddle is a great deal!

Very nice light weight paddle for the price! Make sure to get the specs on what length to get based on both your height AND the width of your kayak! We ordered a 220 and a 230 and had to exchange the 220 for a 240 because we have an inflatable kayak which is pretty wide! Back Country was GREAT and exchanged it with no hassle and they paid the shipping! Great company to do business with.
I liked this paddle. Nice grip, good blade shape and light weight. I agree with other reviews. Can paddle all day. It arrived promptly at a nice price.
Nice Carbon fiber paddle, lightweight, strong, decent blade shape. AquaBound has been revamping their product line over the years and the longer shaped touring blades are now in the $250 price range. This paddle has a somewhat shorter blade style and falls along the upscale rec/touring part of the spectrum. It's a good paddle, and the oval shaped grip area is a newer feature that works well. Overall I wouldn't pay more than $150 for this paddle (6/12) but if you find it at that price it's a good buy.

My paddling speed for the same effort expended is 5% faster with the Sting Ray all carbon paddle. I've been paddling the same 5 mile route on a lake 3 times a week for 5 years and without exerting any extra effort I cut my best time by 5%. This paddle for $144 (after a 20% sales promotion discount) is light, comfortable, and sturdy.
I normally paddle with a fiberglass shaft but was loaned this paddle once and gave it a try. A few ounces lighter than the fiberglass and performed very well. If you do a lot of paddling it might be worth your money to step up to this paddle.
Thank you Back Country
Your service is great. I received the paddle in perfect condition and just when you said it would arrive. I have really enjoyed the light weight as I can paddle all day without fatigue. It comes apart really easily and then is just as easy to re-assemble. I think your company is terrific and I've referred you to many of my friends.
Great paddle, after breaking my Hobie paddle, I bought this one from Backcountry. It came quickly. It's strong and light, it comes apart easily and I would get it again in a flash. Paddling really is easier with a light strong paddle.

Many factors influence paddle length: touring/whitewater, height, boat width and paddling style (high angle or low angle). There is a great set of easy charts at this site:
