Description

Fast, smooth, light.

A carbon shaft and carbon blades keep the Aqua-Bound Manta Ray Carbon 2-Piece Paddle super light as you train for the next adventure race. Not into races? That’s cool—the Manta Ray blasts through coastal waves and slices smoothly through the water on your fitness paddles too.
  • Dihedral means the blade angles so that water flows easily off the blade during your forward strokes, which minimizes flutter
  • Cross-sectional shape provides strong bite with each stroke (think tight turns and quick response) and helps you link strokes smoothly
  • Two-piece design makes the Manta Ray travel-friendly
  • Slightly bigger blade (than the Aqua-Bound Sting Ray) for aggressive paddlers with high-angle strokes

I'm 5'7". Ordered the 230cm Manta to use with a Jackson Cuda. Use primarily on large lakes. Sometimes with relatively high power boat traffic. Might eventually do some salt water coastline fishing. Did I choose the right paddle?

For others who read this:

I'm 5'8 and have a 2009 Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 and generally paddlle it with the Sting Ray Carbon 220cm. I also have an Ocean Kayak Trident 15' that I use the carbon Manta Ray 230cm on. The size of the paddle and the shape of the blade have so many dependencies. Width of your kayak, width of your shoulders, angle of your personal paddling style, nature of your specific trip. If I have a far trip of 10+ miles or if I know I will be fighting tides all day, I'll take my Sting Ray as I don't get as tired as fast with it, but I'm slower. However, if I'm paddling with a group of people, I always take my Manta Ray as I know that with it I won't have any trouble keeping up as it provides more torque with each stroke.

Odds are if this is your first paddle you'll like it and your paddling style will be molded using it. It'll be your second or third paddle that you will not like using as you'll have to get used to it not being your first paddle. That's been the experience I've seen with myself and many others.

Safe paddles and keep the dry side up!

This paddle rocks. I gave it to my wife for her birthday replacing her old aluminum shafted Manta Ray. Now I have to work my tail off to keep up with her AND she doesn't find it fatiguing. Previously I easily out paddled her (using my aluminum Manta) despite being in a rec boat to her touring boat.

Just tried paddle first time

Im 6'0 and paddle a dagger catalyst 13'6, mostly lakes and class 1 rivers. Which paddle and length would you recommend between the two?

Is this a good paddle for a heritage 9.5 featherlight Kayak?

Yes, I think this would be a better choice than the sting ray. Your short boat should see more use in fast moving water where you don't need the high cadence of a low angle paddle design. This should give you better bite for quickly changing directions in fast water.

The carolina is a medium width boat around 24". Along with your height, I would recommend the 230cm paddle

240.....it'll keep you from banging your paddle on your boat all the time.
