Indispensable...?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's the soul mate of your leaders & tippet. It just works!

*Revised* - Downgrade to 3 stars. Perhaps I put too much pressure on the pads when straightening out my leaders, but this leader straightener started developing gashes in it that would coat my leaders with a black film. It was possible to remove most of the film, but very, very annoying. I bought a straightener from a different company and will see what happens w/ it. This one still gets the job done, but if my new one doesn't coat my leaders with a film, I will have to not recommend this one.

Does the job!

As stated in the reviews below, this is a necessity to have on the water! I know some folks swear that the 'ol paws work just fine, but hey, I'm a lady and it hurts to line straighten by hand! This has been a great accessory to keep on the pack. It works quick and does its job to straighten your line. Recommended for any fisherperson!

Catch more fish with a straight leader

Yeah you can straighten a leader with your hands but it burns! Using this makes sure I straighten it out all the way. A coil free leader will cast better, give better presentation, and helps a ton with your hook set!

Opinion changed

All those little kid fly fishing kits and everything came with leader straighteners, so I brushed it off as some useless tool that I can better do with my hands. Well, many cuts later I have finally gone back and pruchased one myself. I was an idiot before! These things are great. Such a simple design/idea, but it really saves the pain on the river, literally.

I have been asked "why spend time straightening a leader?" Well... would you eat a fly surrounded by circular coils? Also, a straight leader will improve casting accuracy!
