Forget the stigma—ripping trenches into perfect corduroy and mobbing through leftover chunder is fun as hell. It takes special tools though, which is why Amplid made the edgy, powerful, and aggressive Alter Ego Ski. A slight anomaly in the world of fatter-is-better, the Alter Ego checks in at a relatively svelte 95mm underfoot, which isn't exactly the width of a traditional carver, but it's no pow fatty, either. Amplid built it with a whole mess of sidecut, so you can rip turns without having to check speed, and laid down two Titanal Centriband laminates, which form a stiff layer in the center of the core to slingshot the Alter Ego from edge to edge without losing any energy. It also outfitted the ski with Basalt suspension strips, which it laid down in a V pattern to direct energy into the edges for a powerful, aggressive feel without chatter or deflection.
Underlying the power is a quick and lively P10 Superlight wood core, which keeps the Alter Ego from feeling like a dead, damp two by four. Amplid pressed it into its Cruise Camber profile, which combines a generous amount of underfoot camber with a slight tip rocker and a flat tail, so you can enjoy surprising float in soft snow and powerful turn finishing on hardpack. Roundtop sidewalls keep the Alter Ego's topsheets from chipping and blowing out, and the TPU spin tips reduce weight to help the Alter Ego stay nimble in tight spots, so you don't get sketched out if you take it into the trees or decide to zip up a bump line.
