Altra mixes maximum cush with a Zero Drop platform into the Women's Olympus 1.5 Trail Running Shoe. The Zero Drop platform places your heel and forefoot at the same distance for a natural stride, while the dual-layer EVA midsole adds an extra A-Bound layer that reduces impact and increase return energy at each step-off. Altra also added a comfy Contour footbed for even more cushioning.

The Olympus 1.5 also features Altra's Footpod sole, which utilizes trail-specific sticky rubber that is anatomically designed for natural comfort for the bones and tendons in your foot. A Footshape toe box also lets your toes spread out naturally to ensure stability on rugged terrain. On top, Altra equipped the Olympus 1.5 with a quick-drying, durable, trail-specific mesh to ventilate and keep your foot cool. Gaiter Trap accommodates gaiters without wrapping them around the shoe's sole.

    Best shoe I've ever worn

Best shoe I've ever worn! They're incredibly comfortable, with plenty of room in the toes and a very comfortable heel. They're good for all day long. I bought another pair of Altra's soon after because the brand is so comfortable! Definitely worth the price.

The way running shoes should fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm an ex-Hoka lover -- went through two pairs that I loved before they changed the design for more mainstream appeal. The fit of these has everything I loved about the Hokas -- has a nice wide toebox, but without allowing your foot to swim around in the shoe. I'm afraid I'm a little on the fence about the zero drop; definitely felt it a little when running, but wasn't an issue walking. Overall a great ride, and a worthy replacement.

    altra's rate at the top

We have owned a few pair of altra shoes now and have nothing bad to say about them. They are well built and comfortable, and just as importantly perform very very well. I think they are great for new trail runners especially due to the cushioning, they will make your entry into trail running a pleasure.

    No More Neuroma Pain!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 9.5

I'm a 57 year old lifetime runner who developed Morton's Neuroma about ten years ago. It had cut my mileage from ultras to around ten miles max. The Altra 1.5 shoes I've been wearing for several months have been just the thing to be able to do longer mileage again. So far, I've done some nearly 20 mile runs on the Tahoe Rim Trail without pain. I wear them an entire size larger than other shoes since they do run small. The padding under the metatarsals is excellent as is the construction of this second generation. They are very different from the old pink/orange Altras and I really appreciate the neutral colors. The gaiter trap on the back is a great idea!

I'm a 57 year old lifetime runner who used to do ultras until Morton's Neuroma reared its ugly head. I rotate two pairs of Altra 1.5 with an a couple shorter weekly runs in my Hoka One One Stinson shoes. The Altras are the most comfortable shoes I've ever run in and they offer plenty of padding under the metatarsal heads (old people lose the fat pad there). They allow my feet to spread out, taking pressure off the intermetatarsal nerves. I wear Altras an entire size larger than my regular shoes and there is no issue with my toenails being injured on long downhill trail sections. The 1.5's are a LOT better constructed than the older Altra models. I've been wearing them all year and there are no problems with uneven wear. They keep the sand and stickers out nicely and have a gaiter trap built right in.
