Slick Rock Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Primaloft

Massively warm even in damp conditions, the PrimaLoft-insulated Slick Rock 0 Degree is a workhorse sleeping bag from ALPS Mountaineering. It’s not ultra-light or hyper-compact like a pricey 800-fill down bag, but shoved in a ski tour pack or hiding in the back of your truck, the Slick Rock will save your ass from the cold like a champ, and it won’t lose its loft in the wet.

Bottom Line: Hypothermia insurance.

Right now, I have an REI Polar Pod 0* mummy bag. It weighs in somewhere around 4.5 pounds, and I'm having issues with the fabric shredding at certain seams and opening up out of the stitches. From what I've read, this bag seems comparable in weight and compression, which are fine, but what I really want is a more durable fabric. Any comments on the durability?

THe zipper kind of sucks - the material gets caught up in it and its a bit of a pain, but it is warm and didnt cost the earth.

A Great Bag (and Value) Over-all

By:
April 14, 2009

I'm a novice, so I was kind of shooting in the dark when I bought the 0 Degree Slick Rock. The product description made it seem like this bag wouldn't be appropriate for a minimal load, but I was able to cram the bag into the included stuff sack and get it all into my tiny pack.

The bag kept me warm for the whole night in New Hampshire's White Mountains. There was 5 ft of snow on the ground below us and we woke up to ice crystals on the outside of our tent, but I wouldn't have known it in my cozy sleeping bag.

You're 1in into the long size. It would be better to have slightly more sleeping bag than not enough. You don't want sleep cramped!
